Subject: [K-list] to Lillian re Unitarians

the Unitarian Church (in Princeton, N.J.) is giving that course. I only
attended one session of the course. My impression concerning the group (very
small) was that they were all very sincere and very nice people.. However,
if they never leave their particular millieu they will not have tested what
they have learned. It is very easy when one is involved with people who all
think alike. In other words, when they are confronted with adversity, how
will they respond? Lillian<<

Hi Lillian, I have been going to the Unitarian Church in Princeton as a
visitor for a few months now and am thinking of joining. Are you a member
there?

I would not tend to believe that all Unitarians think alike. I'm not sure
what you mean by "if they never leave their particular millieu." Many of the
people I've met there did in fact leave their particular religious millieu
(Protestantism, Judaism, Catholicism), for instance, to become Unitarian.
They may have been confronted with family or cultural adversity for doing so.
I find them to be far more committed, seeking and honest in their spiritual
life than I found people to be in the mainstream Christian churches I grew up
in. So I am mystified by your criticisms, which seem to be condescending and
to be based on one experience of meeting an admittedly small handful of
people.

If I have misunderstood you, I apologize, but aren't we all confronted with
adversity continually in life and doing the best we can with the tools we are
given (or search for, as those people were)? I would think that they'd be
"testing what they have learned" daily.

Respectfully,
Shelle
