Hi,

I've noticed a good number of posts on problems an K here lately, along with
Gopi Krishna references. Can't really say a lot about him. I started reading
one of his books and put it down, haven't picked another up. I don't really
see things his way. He never looked to experts to try to understand just set
himself up and started writing about things he didn't half understand IMHO.
Not questioning whether he experienced any of the stuff he writes about,
just didn't see him helping anything much myself.

I thought I'd pass along some info on organizations that help people with K
problems. I have strong feelings about which one to look into, but we all
know I'm much more traditional than most on this list so you can pick that
out from my descriptions below. I know people involved in each group (I've
been involved with two of them) and there is overlap of ideas but the
descriptions will give you some general tendencies of the approaches to
expect from most of their members.

Kundalini Research Network (http://www.kundalininet.org/) has an annual
meeting with researchers (mostly psychologists) reporting on their studies
and some reports by people who have had Kundalini experiences. The web site
is under construction and I don't know what you will find when you visit.
There is a list of tapes by their subject groupings of speakers at
conferences going back to at least 1996 or 1997 and maybe farther. Some of
these might prove helpful. I've only been to a couple of their conferences
so I can't tell you about all the tapes, there are usually two sessions so I
only heard about half of what was said at either conference. They at one
time had a referal service for people needing help. You'd need to contact
them to see about that. I haven't been involved with them in a few years.

KRN was started by a group of Gopi Krishna followers originally so it still
has some of that flavor. They see Kundalini as a pathology far too often for
me but they to have people of all backgrounds involved.

Spiritual Emergence Network (had trouble locating their main site,
http://www.senatciis.org/ is one in Calif.) This group owes its start to
some of the work of Stan Grof. The people here are also psychologists, at
least for the most part. They have a mission as an information clearing
house to help people find someone in their area who does counseling for
people in spiritual crisis (aka Kundalini run amok). Don't have the
national web stite but perhaps you can get a referal from the people at that
site.

SEN and KRN have a some overlap in membership. They have scheduled at least
one year's conferences back to back so people could attend both.

Patanjali Kundalini Yoga Care (http://www.kundalinicare.com/) this is not a
membership organization, but a service run by a psychologist (involved in
SEN and KRN at one time at least) and her teacher, a Kundalini master from
India. The approach is traditional with psychology of the west as an add
on. The structure is on the psychologist model but they are knowledgeable
and have helped a number of people I know personally over the last
half-dozen years. They do hold retreats where very small groups (fewer than
6) get daily counseling on practices, helpful diets, herbal compounds that
can help and the like. They are not limited to folks wanting to try out a
Hindu tradition. I know a number of Christians (of different types), a
Muslim or two, some Buddhists, as well as other folks have been given
practices consistant with their religious beliefs.

None of these are free or for that matter very cheap (referals are free, the
help after that can be costly) so some people will be cut off from help by
that, unless you can get a special rate, which has been done before.

I'm sure there are other good resources out there but these come to mind
immediately. As far as I've stated above I know from experience. Whether any
of them is right for you is not for me to say. Always approach this work as
you would any other, whether it be medical help, tax help, or whatever. You
are responsible for yourself and should not blindly follow anything you
don't understand or sounds fishy to you. Since this is not an area we tend
to know a lot about that may mean you need to ask for a lot of explaining to
be done and see if it all holds together when you look at in total. If it
doesn't keep moving.

Hope some of this might help someone.

Namaste,

Joe.
