Subject: [K-list] love revisited y'all

Oy! Well, as someone who has worked as a therapist on both personal
relationship issues and K experiences, I want to throw in my two
cents' worth about love. If I'm clumsy or preachy, please forgice me -
this is a long distance call from where I am to get online. Anyway,
as children, our lives are run by our needs, and we tend to carry
that into adulthood with a sense that "love" means that someone will
meet our needs for us. And, of course when we love someone in a human
way, we want to do that for them. But it's generally bound to fall
short, especially for people who are desperately needy: they become
endlessly demanding and endlessly angry that they aren't getting what
they want. There's almost always a certain grabbiness in what we
humans call "love." What tears things up in spiritual communities
I've visited is that we tend to confuse the unconditional love
expressed by folks like Ramakrishna, Ramana Maharshi, and Anandamayi
Ma with a need to fill our emptiness. But people like RamaK et al
lived in emptiness and asked nothing for themselves except to be
joined in the place where they lived. So we too often talk about
unconditional love and at the same time imply that we expect others
to give us what we want and fill our emptiness, our longings, and all
the rest of it for us. It's amazing how folks in spiritual
communities can talk about love then attack each other with such
blaming desperation. So, what is unconditional love? It's when
Kundalini Devi fills us with Herself and we experience Her as our
true self. Then all this human neediness falls to dust.
