Dear Bryan,
I have found at times that the use of beads, (108 bead japa, or 99 bead musbaha), is very helpful... moving one bead through your fingers for each count, or chant seems to provide a "positive" distraction from flying thoughts. Also, I have found that the more I "resist" the intrusion of unwanted thoughts, the stronger and more prevalent they become, (tenacious little buggers, aren't they!)! So, now I imagine the thoughts as "clouds" drifting across an azure sky... I let them float, without "attaching" myself to them. At other times I have seen them as flotsam and jetsam on a wind tossed lake... as I slip below the surface, moving toward the depths, the wind tossed waves and debris float away above me... Oh, and yes... there are simply times when none of these techniques have worked... during those times faith steps in... I know that the "effort" of meditation\prayer has impact, even if I don't "feel" it! I hope this is helpful for you!
Much love,
Michael

hell... I said "s'up hounds?"... "heh! nada!" they said... so I made
cookies, (oatmeal raisin)... and we ate them with milk and giggles"

  Hi

Can anyone suggest some exercises for controlling a racing mind? Even when I am doing a counting / breathing exercise -- I will start counting and as I get into it -- I'll get the count going and before I know it I will be counting and another part of my brain will be off doing analytical analyses.Need to slow it. HELP.

  Bryan
