My mother sacrificied all her needs for the sake of me and my sister and it did us a whole lot of damage. I think there's a middle way here. I always yearned for a positive role model for a mother - if I ever have a child (looking increasingly unlikely it has to be said as my eggs are well past their sell by date..) then I have a duty to be a strong positive role model in terms of my own self fullfillment and happiness. I think it's easier to 'sacrifice' in terms of loving and giving to another, if you're already fulfilled in yourself and have achieved to a satisfying degree at least, the things you need to do for yourself. Sadly my mother never managed this.
