Subject: [K-list] Volunteers wanted for the list website!
From: Mystress Angelique Serpent

On 2002/03/07 14:29, Mystress Angelique Serpent posted thus to the K-list:
Someone wrote asking me what kind of volunteers I am looking for... :)
Guess it is important to be clear in asking for what you want... call this
a prayer to the list! :)
First, gratitude... giving thanks to the volunteers past and present who
have served this list so very well!

Thanks to Hillary, Percyval, Susan, Harsha, Freda, Frans, and Richard
Satin the list founder. Thanks to new volunteers, Richard Aaron and Mia.
Thanks to Kurt Keutzer for his wonderful FAQ's, and to El Collie for
allowing us to mirror her Signs and Symptoms list. Thanks to Sharon Webb
for the artwork of the crystal kundalite that has come to be associated
with the site. Thanks to those who have made donations to support the
community. Thanks to the members, who make the list!
   Thanks to anyone I missed!

Over the years, there have been so many who have expressed gratitude
for the existence of the K-list and site... well,... when I feel indebted I
like to have some way to give something back. If you feel the same way,
then this is your opportunity!

   Where I am at:

Rich was the first new volunteer. When I took a look at the site a few
weeks ago to sort out what to give to him, I realized it was an awful
mess... broken links everywhere, bad navigation systems, ... and I am the
only one who knows the site and its history well enough to be able to
straighten it all out. My responsibility, and a task long overdue.

I spent the better part of two weeks in ADD hyperfocus completely
redoing the site (both sites, www.kundalini-gateway.org and
www.list-server.net/kundalini/, as well as moving the archives to the
domain) and preparing it to be very volunteer-friendly!

At this point I am pretty burnt out on it. I am really glad I did it,
but I need to get back to my regular work, and I have just enough energy
left to support volunteers.

   Here is my wish list:

What I need, are editors to work on adding to the various sections of
the site.
    Poetry
    Essays
    Awakening experiences
    Meditations
    Art gallery
    cybrary
    Links

For example: Over the years there has been a lot of K-fired poetry
posted to the list, and I know nothing about poetry.. A volunteer editor or
editors would hunt through the archives, (yahoogroups archives are
searchable, the k-g.org archives are not... yet!) ... Select poems that
are good, (in the editors opinion) and paste them into the blank HTML form
I have created for the poetry section. Upload the results to the shared
files at yahoogroups, and let me know it is there so I can FTP it onto the
site. ( best for only one person to do the FTP or it gets messy)

As an ongoing task, also to add any interesting new poetry that shows
up. (Or essays, etc.. whatever section you are editing. ) If you are a poet
and you want to add your stuff, great!

It states clearly in several places that the list is publicly archived,
so I make an assumption that would legally include include permission to
repost anything written by a list member*** to the website, ... but writing
to the author and asking permission would be polite. There are a few
authors who now have their own sites, lists or web magazines, and may
prefer to have their work there and not here. My experience is that most
people appreciate a mirror, so long as it links back to their site.

(*** Despite the list guideline against forwarding stuff, there is a
bunch of stuff in the archives that was not written by members, and I would
not want it added to these sections. The site is to showcase the members,
and increase the value of the site as an information resource.
Member-created content, is what is wanted. )

You do not have to know how to do web design, to add pages to the site!
In some ways, it may be better if you don't know how. ;)

I have created a form that makes it very easy for anyone with a plain
text editor like notepad to turn a text file into a shiny new Kundalini
Gateway web page. I have also made an additional page of instructions on
how to do it, and where to find the form for the section you are working
on. It is here:
   http://www.kundalini-gateway.org/khtml.txt

When it is loaded, right click on it and save it to your hard drive.
Read it in notepad or something instead of a web browser. I will continue
to update this document, as I discover what else someone may need to know.
The links on this document are not clickable, so paste them into your
browser window.

Alternatively, if you do not want to be a section editor, but only want
to contribute some content, that would be great! Anybody can add a page to
the site! Just follow the same instructions.

Alternatively, if you do not want to create content, but are willing to
put other people's content into the form, that is Really an important and
much needed service. Really really.
There is a lot of stuff in the yahoogroups shared files, and on my hard
drive waiting to be put into the format and uploaded. I am sure there are
many people who want to contribute content but not put it into form.

I also have received permission in the past, to add all kinds of stuff,
meditation pages by Lobster, Art by Sharon Webb, Jane Tripp and others...
it just never got done. Need somebody with a little bit of webdesign
knowledge to do it.

What else? I put up a Google search box in the archives, and when I
tested it I discovered that Google only has two pages of the site listed,
at present... even tho they were supposed to index the site last fall... So
I have my doubts that their spider will actually come round to index the
archives. Blah. I am going to ask Jerry what search engine he is using for
the adivata and nonduality sites.

Finally... something that has been on my wish list since I first took
over the site. I would like to have the signs and symptoms list change
into links to pages that contain either: a list of links to posts in the
archives that discuss the symptom, *or* a page of snippets of comments
people have made about that symptom. I think that would be just the most
incredibly useful thing!

Like this recent thread on sinuses... if all the useful information
Joseph and others provided, plus the the info from other times the symptom
has come up in the past, was all put together and linked to the symptom, it
would be an amazingly useful and fascinating resource.
Big job tho... maybe too big for one person unless they have a lot of
time on their hands. If someone is sincerely willing to take it on, I will
send you a Cd of the entire list archives, or zip them and put them on the
web for you to pick up.

Anyhow, if any of these jobs sound interesting to you, go for it! There
can be more than one editor for a section, and anybody can add pages.

Probably some of the pages I have put up recently could do with a bit
more editing too... I find small errors every time I visit the site, but I
tend to be a perfectionist and so I have learned to call it done at 85%
perfect, because being a perfectionist meant if I did not decide on some
point of "good enough" I would never finish anything... and yes my spelling
is Canadian... LOL!! : )

Technically, I guess I own it all but I do not think of it that way. To
my mind, the list and websites belong to the community, and taking care of
them is an act of service to the community.

So I am really not going to edit contributions. If someone is being
silly making pages with gobbeldygook or pages that only advertise another
site or their professional services, beyond a link then well... I might not
upload them... but so long as it is member content about Kundalini or art,
go for it! Help this resource to grow. It is yours!

At present the Kundalini gateway is about 140mb... and recent donations
will pay for additional server space, when it is needed. At some point
after I (or someone! ) gets the search engine sorted out, I may put up the
2001 archives, and that will probably add another 80mb... but for now they
are just fine at yahoogroups.

Anyways, I am needing sleep... sorry if this rambles a bit. If you have
any questions I will be back online later.

Thanks in advance! Blessings!!
