Kristena,

I know a few, mostly what was given to me to do for myself. The truth is
things get touchy here and doing harm gets easier.

Alternate nostril breathing (ANB) is always good but helps even more at this
level. Always do it before meditation and it is good to do when you have
some time anytime.

There is another breathing technique for Ajna that is fairly generally used
and is rarely dangerous. I once knew but now I'm not sure of the real name
of it. I always called it "bull breath" because you actually sound like a
bull snorting when you do it.

After at least 5, 10 is better, minutes of ANB, while you have the locks on,
you inhale normally through the nose (not chest breathing, like a baby from
the stomach) after the inhale hold it softly, slightly, and briefly. Just a
catch in the breath really. You then release it, with the slightest of
"pushes," and direct the energy of that release, the snort, upward toward
Ajna. There are some variations on it but some of those can be too powerful
for a many people.

The throat is pretty tricky. Ignoring the brain at Ajna it is the most
complex of all the chakras. There are an unbelievable number of nadis that
meet there. The general thing is to get in and and get through it as quickly
as possible. Doing the locks with all breath work and meditation will help.
Japa/mantra, repeating the name of the diety appropriate to you/doing
appropriate mantras, helps a lot.

The throat is a danger point. That is where you first face the abyss. It is
where the temptation to go to the dark side is so strong. Working to get
through there avoids a lot of temptations that don't help anyone. Psychic
powers are most closely tied to throat. Psychic powers are neither good nor
bad but it takes a strong person to not use them for selfish purposes.
Particularly before enlightenment. After the brain is cleared and Bindhu is
reached there is much less danger. Or so they tell me, I'm not enlightened
yet.

Along with meditations, mantras and prayers are the overall best tools and
the ones most often overlooked and ignored.

If you are a Christian and want to do a mantra in that tradition you have
some options. If your're RC "pray the Rosary" is a solid choice. The mantra
in that tradition that I like the best is a variation of the one from the
Philokalia (my spelling sucks, the Greek text on Christian spiritual work),
"Lord Jesus Christ have mercy upon me." It is said as you get benefit (have
practiced it and grown spiritually) from it tossing out words can make it
stronger like, "Lord have mercy upon me." Then as you begin to see all the
world as related or as one, "Lord have mercy."

For me Krishna was the most obvious choice for a diety. Duty is the most
important thing in life. Duty to the Creator, duty to your people, duty to
family, should all come before duty to yourself. (Not asking anyone to agree
or not, just the way of things.) So the Gita became my "Bible". One friend
has Hanuman where I have Krishna. His issue is service rather than duty. It
isn't what you want, it is what you need that determines the diety and the
primary issue.

If you want to learn more about mantras, along with some specific ones check
out

He has some writings there that are good (but the hyperlinks sometimes have
some problems). He also has several books and tapes/CDs. I've got Healing
Mantras and it is a very good book. He has a three book set that costs a lot
and is great for the truly hardcore types but I DO NOT suggest someone think
about that set until doing mantras seriously for at least a year. (Seriously
is minimum of 5 malas a day.) It is written assuming you know a lot and just
need to be given the outline. I haven't bought it yet but I've seen it. The
Healing Mantras is a great starting point, has very good commentary, and
more than enough material to keep anyone busy for a year at least.

Know that isn't direected at the sinuses but I view that as a cleansing
issue and it just has to be endured and improved as best possible. Neti neti
and sutra neti for sinuses and Ajna are great, add in some breathing
techniques to make things stronger and move it faster, meditate and do
mantras. Be faithful to this practice and do it daily. I used to spend about
an hour and a half a day with just breathing, meditation, and mantras. Most
people may not have as much problems there is I did, misspent youth, what
can I say.

Namaste,
