The above is your answer. Most of us (me too, way more times than I care to
count!) hold on for two, if not more, reasons: 1) we want to remain
hypervigilant lest we be surprised by the betrayal again, and 2) we don't
want to let the betrayer off the hook. There's also a common thing with
women that our guy looks more attractive to us if we imagine he's desirable
to someone else. All these rationales are guaranteed to keep us spiritually
stuck. Also, they don't work. Hypervigilance can't prevent pain that's
already present, can't prevent future pain and may actually bring on what we
dread. Keeping somebody on the hook only destroys our life by the amount of
energy it drains and it means we're trying to do God's job (delivering
karma). Let go and let Goddess. Like everybody else, I've been betrayed big
time (you don't get to middle age without it) and the only way to get through
it is to surrender -- especially surrender the needs for justice and being
perfectly understood. You've already got a cycle going with the past life
and the childhood injury -- I'd let them both go and heal the pain or you'll
just keep making betrayal the theme of your life and who wants that! Love,
