EFT is very similar to EMDR and very effective also without being dangerous
in any way. It is meant to be used by yourself OR with the help of others,
but the others don't have to be trained EFT specialists, just friends who
are also interested in EFT.

In EFT, you start out the same as in EMDR, focusing on a problem, physical,
emotional, a blockage, an addiction, all sorts of things. Then you also
scale the intensity from 1 to 10.

The rest differs in that they use acupuncture energy points to release the
problems.

You start off by saying your positive message and rub in a circle the 'sore
spot' on your upper chest. This spot is situated somewhere between your
collar bone and your nipple. It's easy to find just by touch. Your positive
message goes something like this: "In spite of the fact that I have (name
the problem) I love and accept myself unconditionally".

Then you repeat a word to focus yourself, such as: My fear of water (if
you're working on a fear of water) every time you hit with your middle and
index finger about 7 times on 7 specific acupuncture points. These are in
order:
the middle beginning of one of your eyebrows;
the bone at the outside of one of your eyes;
on the bone just below one of your eyes;
below your nose between your upper lip;
on the middle of your chin;
on the beginning of your collar bone;
and about 4 inches below your armpit on one side of your body.

Every time I did the sequence, I felt a release, a calming effect. It's
quite special, you can believe me. I was very surprised since I thought this
might be some kind of hocus-pocus.

This is called the Short Sequence, which works most of the time. You can
repeat the sequence till you put your problem at 0 or close to zero on your
scale of 0 to 10. If there is any residual problem felt, you can finish with
a floor to ceiling eye movement done while counting 1 to 6.

When you repeat the sequence, you change the words a bit each time. Fear of
water could become loathing of water, uncomfortable around water, dislike of
water, bad feeling around water and so forth.

The longer sequence includes the 7 mentioned points plus 7 more on your
hands, used for problems that didn't go away using the short sequence.

You can also use Kinesiology to help you determine if you have problems that
you're not focusing the right way on.
