Hello

My name is Emily. This is my first post on the K-list though I have
introduced myself on the Kundalini-list last week.

I am just beginning the K experience. It flared up about 3 weeks ago. My
life has been so filled with synchronism and serendipity that it seems
magical. ;) One of these was meeting a person who had undergone K himself
and who has been practicing/studying Indian spirituality for 30 years. He is
the one who told me I was experiencing a K Awakening, gave me some basic
information and told me to do research on the net.

The last two posts on this list, one from Nick and one from Daniel talk
about therapy helping us to grow once we have been K Awakened. I would like
to share my own experience.

Last June, I met a man who was starting EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization
and Reprocessing). I believe that doing extensive EMDR this summer on my own
is what precipitated my K Awakening.

EMDR is a technique used by over 10 000 therapists worldwide for overcoming
traumas. I have used it successfully for overcoming both traumas and
negative beliefs that were hidden in my subconscious.

EMDR is supposed to be done with a therapist but I did it on my own. The
technique is very simple. One of the theories as to why it works involves
right/left brain hemispheres and rapide eye movement dream state.
You can find more info at www.emdr.com

You concentrate on an emotion that you have, caused by a negative thought,
an unpleasant memory, a negative belief in yourself, anything. While
concentrating on the emotion, you do eye movements to the right and left.
They can also be upper right/lower left, upper left/lower right or up and
down. BTW these are good hatha yoga eye movements for keeping the eyes
healthy and strong. :)

You do this for sets lasting from 1 to 3 minutes according to the books, but
I have done sets lasting much longer. I have found that doing longer sets
allowed me to travel inside my subconscious and uncover all sorts of
strange, childish negative sentences which still had an emotional impact on
me.

Instead of eye movements, you can tap alternately on your right and left
thighs with your right and left hands. You can also use alternating sounds
in your left and right ears, which I do when I have my light/sound machine
close by.

You will find that as you clear away a thought such as: "I'm not good
enough,", you will uncover a similar yet distinct one that says: "I'm not
worthy,", then you might go on to: "I'm not lovable,", "I don't deserve
love," and so forth. Each one gets reprocessed in turn.

I did a heck of a lot of crying doing EMDR, though my friend who did EMDR,
showed no emotional reaction while doing EMDR with his therapist but it hit
him while driving home and kept him awake the following night as his brain
processed information from his childhood trauma and related it to how he
raised his own son and how he had related to his former girlfriends.

Once, while processing some anger I had towards a friend, I saw myself as a
baby and saw a woman whom I thought was my mother though she didn't look
like her, leaning over the baby. A while later a strong emotional feeling
went through me: "No one is going to hurt my baby anymore!" and it hit me
that it was ME I saw leaning over the baby to protect it, or rather, to
protect myself.

I had always felt anxious and had battled with depression all my life. Since
doing EMDR this summer (and I still do EMDR when I feel a negative thought
or feeling) the tension in my heart (Anahata) and belly (Manipura)
completely changed to a different sort of humming/throbbing which I believe
unleashed the K Awakening.

I'm not saying anything more than this is what worked for me. I know that no
two K Awakenings are the same, no two people travel the same journey. But
sometimes we do have parallel experiences.

I have read all your posts with a great hunger for knowledge and feeling
part of a world-wide community of K Awakened people has been MOST comforting
to me. You are one of my life lines. ;)

Thanks to my K Awakened friend who continues to guide me through the
Awakening, thanks to the K which is opening up my mind to new possibilities,
thanks to EMDR and to everything I have lived in my past, no matter how
difficult, I am finding that I am embracing the K Awakening without fear and
with much joy and hope for the future. Daily, I thank the Spirit/Universe
for giving me this gift. I live in a state of gratitude. :)

I hope and wish for all of you and for all other people who being K
awakened, a wonderful, safe, comfortable journey to self-realization.

Emily from Montreal
