  Dear Leslee, List,

I rather suspect that most of us are suddenly 100% awakened and then
gradually little by little come to terms with our awakening as we go through
various physical and psychic experiences. Sometimes we move towards
"enlightenment" and sometimes we come down to earth to "chop wood, carry
water." Perhaps they are the same thing. :))

With so many people becoming K awakened and at the same time having the
Internet as a means for sharing our experiences, we are on unchartered
ground. We are learning as we go--discovering which processes are shared
with others and in what ways our individual awakenings are unique.

It seems to me though, that once awakened Kundalini becomes a gradual
  enlightenment process.

Gopi Krishna's autobiography has the telling title of "Living with Kundalini."

He says: "From my point of view, there is no aspect of my experience so
important for study and investigation as the *slow metamorphosis* which my
cerebrospinal system underwent to equip the brain for a new pattern of
  consciousness...p. 363.

In the Preface to *Kundalini The Secret of LIfe by Swami Muktananda, Swami
  Kripananda writes:

"...in almost every culture and religious tradition, Kundalini has been known
and revered, for in Kundalini lies the secret of direct spiritual experience,
the lifeblood of all true religion. Its *unfoldment* has produced the great
mystics and men of genius who have flourished in every age..." [emphasis
  mine]

  He goes on to say:

"Baba explains that Shaktipat involves an actual transmission of energy from
the Guru to the disciple. This in turn awakens the seeker's dormant
Kundalini energy and *initiates the process* of spiritual evolution."
  [emphasis again mine]
  ...

  He continues:

"In this book Baba describes some of the extraordinary experiences which
follow Shaktipat as *the awakened Kundalini begins to unfold* and purify the
  whole system..."

Muktananda in *Kundalini the secret of life* writes:

"Though we talk about awakening the Kundalini, the truth is that everyone's
Kundalini is already awake. ...It is the inner aspect of Kundalini which has
  to be awakened.
  ...
The awakening of the inner Kundalini is *the true beginning* of the spiritual
journey. [emphasis mine]. Just as when She is directed outward, Kundalini
enables us to explore the outer world, when Her inner aspect is activated, we
are able to experience the inner, spiritual world....It is only when the
Kundalini is awakened that we become aware of our true nature, of our
greatness, of the fact that not only do we belong to God, but we are God. "

In his *Play of Consciousness* Muktananda writes:

"When this divine power enters a man in the form of grace, he is completely
transformed. *As he becomes* fully aware of the pervasiveness of his own
inner Shakti, he develops a deep love...

Krishnamurti often described his experiences as "the process"

"..on waking one was aware that ll night *the process* was going but, much
more, that there was a blossoming of that benediction. One felt as though it
  was operating upon one.
On waking, there was an outgoing, outpouring of this power and strength. It
was as a stream rushing out of the rocks, out of the earth. There was a
strange and unimaginable bliss in this, an ecstasy that had nothing to do
  with thought and feeling."

  [from *Krishnamurit's Notebook*]

  Swami Shivom Tirth writes:

"When consciousness becomes introverted, as is the case after receiving
Shaktipat, it is called Pratyak-Chetana. *During this stage*, consciousness
proceeds in the direction of attaining the state of Conscious Being.
Kundalini Shakti, defined as the awakened spiritual energy within an
aspirant, is thus described as "Pratyak-Chetana" in Yoga Darshan [by
  Patanjali]. "

  [from *A guide to Shaktipat*]

So here we have the phrases: "slow metamorphosis" "unfoldment" "Initiates
the process" "the awakened Kundalini begins to unfold and purify" "the
Process" "the true beginning of the spiritual journey" "As he becomes fully
aware" "During this stage" "consciousness proceeds" Etc.

Undoubtedly some people's K awakening is so powerful as to propel them
immediately and irrevocably into full "enlightenment." On the other hand,
perhaps it *always* does, but we simply don't remember!
