Hi Dan.... your post intrigued me.... did a bit of searching and
found this movie was adapted from a novel by the same name written
by Gene Brewer. Prior to becoming an author he studied DNA and is
also interested in cosmology... so am thinking your hunch might be
correct.

His website has an email form whereby you might just ask that
question. :) (I've already tried but can't get through the firewall
at work)
