so, here it is ---

You are surely familiar with the old saying

"before enlightenment, chop wood carry water
after enlightenment, chop wood and carry water"

This succinct and delightful little phrase carries the whole truth
of the matter. If you've got the gist of it, fine. If you haven't,
that's
fine too.

Before enlightenment:

"Damn wood sure is heavy, why do we need so much wood anyhow,
why can't he help with all this wood, hell - no use complaining - the
work
has to be done, and so on and yadda yadda yadda."

Discovering the path to enlightenment"

"Wow, this is gonna' be great, I'll dig everything, when I see God face
to Face -
man oh man am I gonna' tell Him something, crystals will help - I'm
sure, hey - a
hundred thousand bows - no problem, pray pray pray, meditate meditate
meditate,
and so on and yadda yadda yadda."

The event of enlightenment: (dramatically reconstructed via imagery and
bs)

"Ting! snap crackle pop, say what?, oh!, eeeks!, huh?, ah-ah-ah-choo,
um, um, uh-hum, no kidding?, well - whatdoyaknowabout that, aieeee,
adios amigo, well - hello there."

After enlightenment:

"time to chop the wood, la de da dee doh, hey - sure is a lot of wood,
chop de chop de chop chop chop, oh, hi, thanks for lending a hand, and
so on and yadda yadda yadda."

And the moral of it is:

"The wood is real, the ax is real, you chopping away is real. It is all
a great setting for the story. The story is as real as you make it."

On a personal note:

Here is what life is like for the character playing the role of Michael
Read. I
have walked many paths trying to find the answer. The answer finally
found me.
On the way to that moment, I had many adventures. I was three kinds of
Christian,
an agnostic, a patriot, did guru worship, tarot, physic readings, drugs,

meditation,
was a householder, a parent, a warrior, studied martial arts, and had
dozens of
interesting jobs and so on and yadda yadda yadda..

Except for the circumstances and the different characters involved, my
story is
not much different than any other story at any given time. Like a friend

of mine
who once winked and said, "It's my story and I'm sticking to it." I'm
telling my
story here.

So, I'll offer you that same wink and tell you what it is like to be
enlightened.
Basically it is no big deal. I do live in a different world than the
merely spiritual folk
inhabit, a far different world from those who merely have faith, and an
incomprehensible
world to those who have no idea that such a world exists.

My world is not prettier, more beautiful, nor is it more glamorous than
it used to be.
The iridescent sheen of the hummingbird's breast is as charming and
lovely as it ever was.
It doesn't become more so by my seeing the sun play off those painted
feathers.

I walk in beauty in this world. Everything and everybody is the living
presence.
Yes, even all you boneheads walking around living in the fantasies that
swirl around
inside your pointy little craniums, even you, you are that presence.

You will never be exactly like me. That is just not possible. Oh yeah,
you will become
enlightened, don't worry about that. Enlightenment will become the most
important
thing you can ever imagine and you'll end up wanting it more than life
itself. When that
happens it won't matter if you've been on the seek for 20 years or 20
minutes.

Boom! Ting! Pop! It will happen. You'll stop dancing and singing, and
playing around,
farting your days away in front of the gate to reality. Then you'll
either be pushed, pulled, or dragged on through. Well, the story is
always a little different for each of us. That's why it
is called story.

Don't take my word for any of this as the truth. After all, I am a
mutant. I have four
nipples, physic powers, and do woodworking for a living.

Before I end this, here is a hint. Enlightenment is not divine self
hypnosis.
