There are arguments to be made for and against whether
to charge for spiritual teachings.
This year I´ve been to see both the Dalai Lama and
Shree Ma. In the case of the Dalai Lama, the tickets
were $54.00 apiece and more than worth the experience
of listening to him in person. In the case of Shree
Ma, I dropped a check into the basket for offerings.
Also more than worth the time. I read everything Lynn
Andrews writes. Most of her books I buy. Some I´ve
been given as gifts. I´ve bought quite a few of her
books and given them to others. I´ve lost count of the
books I´ve bought and given away. Different books for
different people.
In turn, I´ve been blessed with teachers, Mystress
among them, who have helped me for a long time for no
financial return. Alice Ouzanioun (sp?) in Cypress is
another one.
So when people started walking up to me when they met
me and just asking me to teach them, I was not
inclined to charge for my time or for the books I
bought and gave away. So what happened?
What I found was that when people ask you to teach
them, for the most part, they are asking you to heal
them, whether they are willing to do the work or not.
They are asking you for your time and your energy, no
matter what it takes. They would like you to be
available around the clock and to see them through
each difficulty they encounter—weekends, evenings, no
matter. And they would like you to do this for free
because somehow it´s “not spiritual” to charge a fee.
And some people are furious when you won´t just throw
everything to the winds and give them what they need
because then you are not only not available but
suddenly a spiritual fraud. And I've never charged
anyone for help of any kind. But what I´ve learned to
do is that if someone asks me for help, I suggest a
book or a site on the web. I will write down the
information and hand it on. Then it is up to them.
Because until their need to move beyond where they are
is so overpowering that they will not cease until they
find what they need to grow, there is no point in me
spending either the time or the energy. I still have
more demands made on my time and energy than I can
handle and that is because I allow it.
When I wished to get out of the box of pain in which I
lived, I was beside myself with misery. I was
fortunate enough to be helped by some marvelous human
beings, both men and women, mostly women. I was helped
for free and for a fee—in some cases, for serious
money. I had to pay for my own psychological
counseling because my health insurance excluded
preexisting conditions and I had been treated for
depression before. My psychiatrist cost $300.00 per
hour each time my medication had to be renewed. But we
don´t expect our psychiatrists to work for free. But I
was in so much pain I did not care where I went or
what I did. The drive inside of me to get past the
hell in which I lived was so intense that it was
either find my way or die. And this was at a point in
my life where most everything was stripped and I
really struggled financially.
What I really found out was that if I really needed
information, the Cosmos talks to you at all times and
in all places. The information is available all around
you, in song lines and people´s speech and the
snippets on the radio and the voice of the Divine
Beloved within. The Cosmos talks to all of us, all the
time, for free or for a fee, if that is what it takes
to get what we need. So nobody is denied what he or
she seeks. When I didn´t have a whole lot of money, my
mother gave me books. Or I opened up books in the
bookstores and saw a passage or two. I was sent to the
k-list by a very wise woman on another list, which I
found when I searched the internet for information
about the dark night of the soul. And I have found
most of what I needed here. I can also tell you that
compared to what I´ve paid out, $88.88 is really not a
whole lot-four books? If you can´t afford the course,
then just stay with the list and search the archives.
Everything you need has been discussed here at one
time or another. And people are generally very kind.
