I have gotten some heated letters off list about my concepts about
peace. I have also gotten some letters of support. :)

I must say, up front, that without the ascension of Kundalini, Holy
Spirit, whatever you want to call it these days, my heart could not
have healed itself enough to begin to understand these concepts.

My Sensei, Mark Saito, (www.marksaitokahu.com) always told us the
purpose of being a warrior is to have a peaceful heart and to be a
healer. He comes from a family lineage of over 2000 years of a
warrior Japanese clan farmers who fought the injustices and tyranny
of the Samurai. Some misconstrue his art as the art of the ninja but
that is untrue.

I remember him telling us in class that true warriors do not look for
fights, they walk away. If a person reacts and strikes out at another
in anger, revenge, retribution, or fear they have already lost.

I am not a follwer of Gandhi's methods. I don't think they would work
today because Gandhi was living in the context of colonial British
rule. The rules of war and engagement were observed by the English.
We are not so lucky today for it seems no country observes them and
we can risk suicide in peaceful protest. I, conversely, can be a
follower of his principles.

I do think war can be an instrument of peace. I am not totally
naive. What I do believe if the heart is peaceful then the actions
of protection and defense can be justified and administered in a
sensible manner. When the warrior is very young, Mark would say, they
learn martial arts. When they become older they start to learn to be
a healer. I would add then they can also lead the younger warriors
with wisdom.

If our leaders, any leaders really, had the hearts of healers...how
different this world might be.

Peace in the heart has a supernatural quality which can manifest
miracles in sometimes the most hopeless and despairing of situations.

The diversity of people and cultures on this planet can make
establishing peace a daunting and seemingly insurmountable task. What
I can do is to take care of my own heart and be responsible for my
actions in my very tiny little corner of the global village.

Peaceful intent,
Susan
