Subject: [K-list] bears
From: Michael Read

On 2001/09/05 20:10, Michael Read posted thus to the K-list: Well, we've had bears here at night lately. The very quietly tip
over the garbage bins and have thier little picnic.

I wouldn't be surprised to come home and find a bear lying on my bed,
drinking my beer, and eating out of the compost bucket!

Dry conditions in the mountains have curtailed the bears' food supply.
They are down in the lower elevations raiding orchards and picking off
the ground squirrels and gophers and prairie dogs.

We have a huge dog that keeps the bears away up until about 10:30 pm
from 6:30 am. She is a Great Pyrennes. Pure white and she smiles!

Some folk have been injured, even fatally this year. Bears are bears
for a reason. They don't have sweet dispositions, espescially when
they are fattening up for winter or have cubs around.

DON'T feed the bears!
