Subject: [K-list] god?
From: Michael Read

On 2001/08/28 08:29, Michael Read posted thus to the K-list: Over on another list (nondualitysalon) a year or so ago I stated that
I no longer believe in god. Someone using the name neo responded with
this quote from "City of Angels": "Some things are true if you believe
in them or not."
All Love, neo

*********************************
I responded to neo!

What is it then, neo? Allah Allah Akbhar? Yahweh? Krsna? Jesu Christu?
We have to leave Buddhism out. That path is the great atheistic
realization of oneness! Gautama replied that there is no soul, no
atman.

To imply a soul is to imply separation. ;-)

But is Buddhism the answer? I dearly love the image of the laughing
buddha!

Perhaps god is like that capricious character on 'Star Trek'. You know
the one - Q! Entire realities altered/created/destroyed with but the
snap of a finger!

Perhaps god is like stodgy old YHWH. Stumping around mountain tops
carving the law on stone, burning bushes and riding about on pillars
of fire. All the while dreaming up contracts for the chosen.

Perhaps god is like Krishna, our best friend who urges us onward. Live
life with gusto, honor and determination. Fight the good fight and let
Me sort out the rest.

Perhaps god is the standing wave that all of creation rests upon. That
would be rather like the great turtle of some Native American
cultures.

No, neo, I no longer believe in god. To believe in god I have to see
myself as separate from god. There is no god because god is
everywhere.

What is that who dares to say I AM THAT?

The recent post about communicating with christians was delightful. It
was honest, gentle and open. We all have interacted with folk who
'enjoy' a solid fundamental belief system of one stripe or another.

Earlier this year while living in Las Vegas, Nevada I was attending
the weekly meetings of a vedanta group. It was led by a delightful
woman in her late 70's. Her name was MahaMaya. No, she was not awake.
This is not a judgement of her - rather, it is observation. She was
steeped in her tradition. There is great comfort in tradition and
form.

When I told the group that I am awake I was asked what I see now. Only
god was my reply. Some members of the group opened up at that and
broke into smiles of understanding. MahaMaya on the other hand began
to pelt me with questions about the different aspects of Brahma. My
answer was that it doesn't matter. Yes, she was attempting to 'test'
'my' awakening against her belief system.

I could 'see' that she had been skating about the gates of awakening
for decades, hesitant to allow that last step to happen. Her anecdotes
bore this out. She related a number of times how her teacher had
created an opening whereby she had a glimpse of what is. She told
of how she always pulled back from it. Her energy patterns bore this
out.

What I am trying to say here is what Mystress said - it is ego and its
fear of destruction that pulls us away from awakening. Ego is not evil
not is it something to be 'overcome' by direct confrontation. No. Ego
is a natural aspect of being a body/mind organism. Without it no
species can long survive.

However, (big grin here) when the ego is overblown or out of balance
we experience great suffering. We see this not only in other folk but
if we are at all honest with ourselves we see it in our own
personalities as well. I am grinning because the so-called ego is a
mere fabrication.

I know how scary it can be when the process of awakening starts to
happen. There is the sense that 'now I am beginning to get this' then
there is the awareness that 'I am not going to survive this'! Yikes!

No, 'you' won't survive awakening. The old you who desired a nice
clean 'system' that the universe could adhere to can't handle
awakening. The old you that expected awakening to conform to 'your'
ideals won't exist (as a viable logic system) anymore.

Of course I can't tell you what awakening is! LOL! I love you too much
for that! If I describe awakening this way or that, you will only
build another expectation about what it will be like for 'you'. LOL

If I say it is emptiness (it is), you will try to fill it with
something. If I say it is fullness (it is), you will try to empty it.
hahahahah! I did the same!

All I can offer is a small bit of advice. When the natural process of
awakening starts, don't hold on to anything, don't hang back, let the
fears come and go, let the joys come and go, ignore any entities that
may appear, focus on nothing, and don't believe that 'you' have
figured it out! LOL!
