Hi, X,

I had completely forgotten about that song until it "reappeared" on a
(free! promotional! CD!) from Oxford American... a cover of it by
Billy Bob Thornton and some other fella whose name I can't recall. :)
I was riding shotgun back up into our mountains at my favoritest spot
in the drive - right where South Carolina warps up into North
Carolina (delicious space). Naja, no time to go into it, but it was a
delightful moment.

I can't tell you how many times I heard that song played by dad on
some creaky truck stereo oh-so-many years ago. A catchy tune, yes,
but after the events of last year, the words in the song have taken
on a whole new meaning.

This sort of "refiguring" of the existing milieu is happening a lot
lately... things I haven't seen or heard or felt in a long time
reappear only to have "me" looking at them from a different
perspective. I am in this nearly perpetual state of wondering if
the "authors" intended what it is I am picking up, if it was
intentioned or residual or... not. :) Most any pop-cultural element
can do it to me these days... even the most sideways remark overheard
on the street can do it... hehe... a sort of "do they realize what
they're saying?!" state.
