Subject: Solstice/New Moon
On Thursday, June 21, an unusual planetary double event will happen: a New
Moon shortly after the moment of the summer solstice. At 7:38am GMT
(3:38am EDT) the Sun will enter the sign Cancer; that is the moment of
solstice. At 11:58am GMT (7:58am EDT) the Moon will conjoin the Sun at 0º
10' Cancer; that is the New Moon. I'm hearing that people already notice
the strong, "weird" energies.
The Solstice/New Moon chart shows a stellium of five planets in the sign
Gemini, opposing three planets in Sagittarius. These opposing energies
find their easiest outlet through Uranus, planet of sudden, unusual things
and of the higher mind or intuition. Uranus is strong in its own sign,
Aquarius. In addition the Saturn/Pluto opposition finds its easy outlet
through Neptune, planet of the subconscious and inspiration, of dreams,
illusion and delusion, also in Aquarius. In the Earth's chart the
oppositions are across the 2nd/8th house axis, showing possible
repercussions on the market and economy. The Sun and Moon are in the 2d
house of money, possessions, and prana.
The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 0º Cancer is:
CANCER 0º: ON A SHIP THE SAILORS LOWER AN OLD FLAG AND RAISE A NEW ONE.

KEYNOTE: A radical change of allegiance exteriorized in a symbolical act: a
point of no return.
This is a moment of crisis, a sharp turning point. In the zodiacal cycle,
at the summer solstice the northward motion of the sun (in "declination")
stops; the sun rises and sets as far north of exact east and west as it can
during the year-cycle. Its motion is now reversed. Slowly the sunset
points move southward on the western horizon, and the length of the day
decreases. On the "ship" which symbolizes the ego-consciousness floating,
as it were, on the sea of the vast Unconscious, the individualized will
makes a basic decision. The dominant Yang force allows the Yin force to
begin its six-month long rise to power. The "collective" will gradually
overcomes the "individual," and at the end the state will overpower the
person. Now, however, the individual person enjoys his most glorious hour;
he exults in his ability to make a "free decision" - i.e. to act as an
individual who selects his life goal and his allegiance.
In a decisive act heavy with consequences, the symbolic college-youth might
realize that he should bring to an end his quest for the ideal companion
and enter into matrimony. He assents to the possibility of progeny, of
home responsibility. His consciousness accepts a process of fundamental
REORIENTATION, implying the stabilization of his energies.

larger and more significant life trend. Compelling decision.

At the solstice the Moon will be in 27º Gemini. The Sabian symbol is:
GEMINI 27º: THROUGH BANKRUPTCY, SOCIETY GIVES TO AN OVERBURDENED INDIVIDUAL
THE OPPORTUNITY TO BEGIN AGAIN.
KEYNOTE: A release from unbearable pressures, freeing one for new tasks.
This symbol can easily be misinterpreted, for while it obviously has a
connotation of failure, it nevertheless depicts a particular state of the
complex relationship of an individual to his community. The bankruptcy
proceedings mentioned here should not be construed as referring to a
fraudulent type of bankruptcy. At least in the United States bankruptcy
does not imply a moral condemnation; rather, it means that individual
failure cannot be separated from the health of the community. The special
nature of the whole is implied in the failure of the part to perform
adequately under particularly harsh economic conditions. A society which
enthrones the principle of ruthless competition must also develop
mechanisms to exteriorize the principle of compassion. The latter was at
first emphasized by Northern Buddhism, and soon after by Christianity. The
concept of atonement is directly related to that of release from unbearable
economic pressures in bankruptcy.
Here we have another kind of "leaving behind," a LIBERATlON FROM THE PAST.

At 25º Gemini, Jupiter, the "Greater Fortune," the principle of expansion,
conjoins Moon and Sun:
25º GEMINI: FROST-COVERED TREES AGAINST WINTER SKIES.
KEYNOTE: The revelation of archetypal form and essential rhythm of existence.
At this level of "exteriorization" a contact with archetypes and pure
forms of individual selfhood is to be sought - also with the characteristic
images (Spengler's Ur-symbols) of the culture. Externals are left behind.
This is a step beyond "pruning"; it is rather a process of removal of all
superficialities of existence.
Cyclically, nature helps us to reach this state of bare reality. It is
not that we experience the Buddhist's void (sunya), but rather that we
reach the essence of our individual being, the form of pure selfhood which
is the structuring power underneath all external features - all that belong
to the "leaf' realm.
In a sense we can speak of this as a stage of ascetic repudiation, but
it is also one of ESSENTIALIZATION.

About 4 hours after the solstice, the Moon and Sun come together and at New
Moon both are at 0º Cancer: REORIENTATION or REPOLARIZATION.
How this affects you depends on where you live and also on your own natal
horoscope. But it will be a day of strong energies for all.
