necessary for people to maintain their sense of self,"

Christopher, I do not think 7 cases is enough to remotely conclude this.

When your system of operation fails miserably, as in a brain degeneration
such as what is spoken of here, any person is going to respond by testing out
the opposite end of the spectrum of how they viewed themself as being self.

I dont see any validity to this study whatsoever. When you are doing
something a certain way and you crash and burn, inevitably you are not going
to continue being who you were that brought you there. You will likely try
the opposite for awhile and test the waters. Over time, though you end up
some place in the middle.

I view a person in emotional crisis like a ping pong ball in a box. The ball
bounces every which way trying different things in all directions, but in the
end, the ball does eventual rest in one place. Resting is peaceful in itself,
and anyone in an unrestful state can be assured eventually gravity has its
place to bring you to rest.

However, I do not like to talk in third person. It is much too ambiguous for
my taste.
