Well, sometimes what one has to say has already been said and done thousands
of years ago and one may not be able to put it into one's own words as
nicely + precisely as a Jesus or a Buddha. That's where a little quoting
might come in handy...

Speaking for myself, I usually do manage to put down whatever I have to say
in my own words, but I am not totally opposed to short quotes whenever they
hit the point better than what I could come up with myself. Even if I only
wish I had the full practical embodiment of the words I am quoting, the
words still ring true for me.

Well, what kind of preconceptions of the meanings of words do you have
yourself as a reader?

And what if he didn't fully? Does this mean that if the translater isn't a
perfect being he isn't allowed to translate the work?

Does it matter whether the translator lives in the woods or if he or she has
a family?

Maybe they do know or at least have an inkling of the real life applications
of what they're quoting.

Could you please define what you mean by authority? Now here's a good
question for you: Do we have free will or not? I say we do. What do you say,
Christopher?

How would I react? Probably listen and try to comfort the person, despite
all the "unresolved issues" I am carrying around and despite all the sfuff
that I "have been taught I should believe". Well, what about yourself? How
would you react? Where are you coming from?

Wondering too
