On 2001/03/24 14:41, Hbarrett47 posted thus to the K-list: Just to clarify, in bringing up cosmic aloneness I wasn't referring to the
dark night of the soul, which I think is something else (though perhaps
related). The dark nights, in my experience, have to do with the pain of
ego-surrender and/or the necessary "withdrawal" of God that must occur as the
small self prepares for the realization that the Big Self is not only
without, but within -- is, in fact, non-locational and all that is. Put
another way, one has to release God-The-Parent/Savior before one can
apprehend non-duality.

In cosmic aloneness, there is no withdrawal of God, no absence of any Thing.
In fact the Presence is overwhelming. The sorrow experienced feels
impersonal, trans-human. I realize that to call this state "sorrow" is
putting human words on an unfathomable mystery, but we feel what we feel
through our own capacities. As for writings on this, I'm not aware of much.
Chogyam Trungpa alludes to this sadness in "Shambhala." And Bernadette
Roberts' account of her own awakening (not to be missed!), "The Experience of
No-Self," also describes some pretty hairy moments that I think will be
familiar to many of us. Holly
