Dear Nina and all :)
Hmmmmm yes... the different meanings of sorry.
We have a prime minister in Australia who refuses to say sorry to the stolen
generations of our indigenous Australians.
John Howard is known here as "The Man Who Won't Say Sorry"
He has deeply offended those here for whom sorry is simply and expression of
compassion and regret - a recognition and a better resolve for the future.
They maintain that sorry must come before healing can take place. His
refusal seems all tied up with attitudes of blame and guilt. I noticed last
week that he said sorry for our currency dropping against the American
dollar. It seems that that fell clearly into his defined 'I am responsible'
self-flagellation box.
( Wondering vaguely whether he was smacked as a child?
"I broke the plate... I'm sorry.. I'm sorry... [don't hit me]"
Perhaps he doesn't feel safe enough ? )

Different understandings of 'sorry'.
and significant consequences here in Australia to mis[sing]understanding.

words words words..

how does that saying go? 'I hear you think you hear what I say' etc.. ?

drifty ramblings :)

btw It's lovely to hear of Spring there. It's Autumn equinox here... equal
and opposite in every respect... Isn't amazing to think of the perfect
balance of it all! The days are shortening and its actually raining this
morning! We've had months of an unusually warm beautiful long Summer -
blue skies, balmy days, crystal clear nights.
The leaves are only just beginning to turn... just a tinge of colour
tipping their outlines.
and the rain smells wonderful! inhale deeply :)

love to all,
:)
Sylvia
