Nick, I think you're giving the Bible authors a little too much credit.
I personally feel that what is "hidden" in the Bible and all other
sacred books is no more than what we choose to place in them. >>
I think Nick has a valid point, Paul. I can only speak about Torah, but
mystical Judaism interprets almost everything in terms of emptying out the
self, and has done so for centuries. Traditionally, mystical Judaism is not
taught to anyone under 40 because life has not eroded the ego enough for the
teachings to be meaningful. You and Susan have big egos in the sense that
they have expanded to include the whole universe and so you love All That

I became interested in the idea after coming across a reference to a passage
in St Paul's
epistle to the "believers in Rome" not long ago in an esoteric text.
"The eager longing of the Creation itself waits expectantly for the
revelation of the Sons of God. For the creation is subject to dissolution,
not of its own choice, but through him who subjected it, yet in expectation
that the Creation itself would be freed from servitude to decay, to share
the glorious freedom of the Children of God." - Romans 8:19-23, as
translated from the original Greek by Hugh Schonfield.
I was familiar with the some of the esoteric symbolism and gematria used in
the New Testament, and kind of battling with a few ego-kundalini problems
myself, so I found it kind of interesting. Paul Foster Case, a little-known
US esotericist of the early twentieth century picks up on the passage in a
Tarot symbolism piece, relating it to "cosmic consciousness." I thought,
hang on a minute, what happens when you actually start to reach threshold
levels of consciousness - once you've actually got significant numbers of
people periodically capable of entering the higher states of samadhi, ie:
nirvikalpa, total non-identification. The answer's simple - instead of them
coming back down, everything else goes up. The whole of creation is sucked
back into pure consciousness - no more world, no more individuality, all
experiential stimuli cease for everyone, existence as we know it will come
to an end as the ego of every living thing is literally blown apart in a
explosion of ecstasy. The only reason the adept in nirvikalpa still comes
back down is because the threshold isn't yet high enough. But for every
person achieving enlightenment so world culture gradually rises in vibration
and more can get there. There has to come a time when a threshold is
reached and they stop coming back down and instead we're all sucked straight
up.
I guess the people who wrote the Bible decided if they told everyone the
truth they'd freak out, so they just created a dialectical culture to
rapidly expand across the world and keep everyone quiet for the last couple
of thousand years, until the thresholds started to be achieved and it
couldn't be stopped anyway.
If it's true, it's a nifty little scheme, I must say. And, of course, it
doesn't really matter if you write about it, because the upper layers of our
subconscious are so stratified with defensive mechanisms, anyone reading
would simply dismiss the idea on the first pretext that enters their mind.
Come to think of it, maybe I'm just displacing my own need for ego-release
onto others by writing this! Hey, this CAN'T really happen!
