Dear Amy,

You forgot to mention what state you live in. If you feel it is
appropriate to take matters in your own hands, sometimes you can have
people involuntarily committed for 24 to 48 hours for observation in
a hosptial.

This is called the Baker Act in Florida and allows you to call the
police and have your loved one taken to the hospital. Fear of
violence to self and/or to others is justification enough for its
enactment.

It may help and it may not but it is hard to discern except within
your own Self what is appropriate for you to do.
