Dear Magne and Christopher.

I think that what Christopher talks about as far as language is
concerned is extremely valid.
I probably came to it from a different angle, more through studying the
history of words etymologically.
(And from wanting to understand the inner pain that so revolved around
still silent words.)

And that could be 'ages' old memory.
Words also go through a cycle of opposing meanings in a generational
lifetime.

'Cool' is not so cool now,
Guys can be galls,
And 'groovy' is 'out; or just 'in' again,
And that is then 'far out',
'Bad' is good among the dudes,
And btw dudes are not duds.
'Nice' is what grandmothers always say,
And what's 'nice' is not 'cool',
But it can be 'bad' (good) in a 'retro' kind of way,
'Fancy' is now superficial and frilly.
Anyway,
Also beware of the guy with charisma and fancy words.

Of course all this is anecdotal and superficial. (And why would these
two words: 'anecdotal' and 'superficial' have such negative connotations
here?)
The change in meaning of words is symptomatic of abuse through language.
Words don't hurt? Just wait a few hours and the pain of a verbal stab is
more nagging that if we would have been pinched. Verbal cruelty starts
very simple and builds from there...

The way Christopher sees 'it' as imprinted or engrained in us is true.
And "it" is more than a set of sonar vibrations that our ears pick up
from the sound of a word.
'It' is accompanied by all kinds of explanatory or interpretable
messages that our other senses pick up, willy nilly... and then the mind
takes over... and then... lo and behold!
A picture says a thousand words... one word often means more than a
thousand, can be the start of a disturbing or intriguing biography.
One word can mean a life sentence.
So just semantics...? I don't think so.
What a lame comeback anyway...

Did you feel that.... ?
That last sentence was abusive...
I did not mean it... I am sorry,
Just wanted to show the power of semantics.

Love, Wim
