Thank you. Mystress. :-)

I think you are right. There are certainly enough rascal gurus around
and plenty of stories of the very bizarre behavior and doings of many
more. When I digested this a bit and especially in light of what I was
responding to it causes me to wonder about something I've noticed in
some spiritual/religious groups.

I can come in to some meeting of the group feeling utterly strong in
Spirit and full of joy. But it seems often like there is some psychic
damper force at work. I will be full of spirit and it feels like the
force of the group or its leader (usually) is clamping down hard on all
spiritual/psychic energy and wants to drag me out into the spiritual
desert and bleach my metaphysical bones for a decade or two before they
will let me anywhere near some half muddy spiritual watering hole they
are guarding. I've always wondered about that. I thought maybe I
really was too rambuncitious or embarrasingly raw or something and that
maybe I "need" this. But on reflection it might be just the opposite of
what I need.

I've also noticed that a lot of groups have one strong central figure
(or his/her lieutenants/stooges), a few sincere devotees and a lot, a
tremendous lot of utter sheep who will agree with anything said and
follow whatever is asked no matter how absurd not out of any
devotion/surrender but simply because they are sheep. One reason I
would probably never make it as a minister is because I have very little
tolerance for sheep!

I got in trouble early with Ananda because I actually asked questions
and questioned what the local chief minister was saying about some
things. It was really bad form and a sign of lack of "attunement" to
question. Silly me. I thought it was a sign of an active mind and a
honest committment to understanding. But they saw it as being
"restless". Well, the dead are not "restless".

I have seen other groups where the leader seemed afraid of anyone with a
bit "too much" spiritual insight and strength because they feared their
authority would be undermined. Very disappointing. Quite human though.

Perhaps the reason why relatively few awaken in a group is because the
group is built largely of all those who will not. Those that awaken are
threatening to the group structure and are disturbing to the sheep.

Or perhaps I really do lack some critical humility.
