Subject: [K-list] Re: Apologies, elections and tolerance

Hello, everybody!

I, too am a Canadian, and I confess that I am rather torn by the
political realities unfolding both here and in the "Excited States".
Our election is in a few weeks and as stated here, the "race" if it
really will be one, is between the old-guard, pork-barrel style
politics of the Liberal ruling party and a one-man-band Prime Minister
versus a young, charismatic Born-again right-winger. Now, as a former
hockey player, I realize that a strong team needs both right wingers
and left wingers with an intelligent Centre:-)...

As an outside observer to US politics, it astounds me that so many
people there would vote for a change when you are in the midst of the
longest bull market in history. Things are pretty good for the
business/financial side of things. I don't like the prospects of
having to line up for hours at the border and having to sign an
affadavit of some kind just to visit my friends who have taken their
stock options and flown south! (You see, taxes are the talk of the
town here, too, but we are REALLY paying too much...)All to have our
version of Bill Clinton's "Kinder, Gentler America" - as our PM once
said "It's called Canada..."

Until the Bush fiasco prompted a deeper look, I was seriously
thinking that we too need a change. But the old religious right agenda
scares the heck out of me, so, as I said, I'm feeling a bit torn...

I'm praying for a favorable recount in Florida, and wish you all the
best! It seems that we rarely have a choice that's not the lesser of
two evils...
