Well, if you only moved the K energy upward, you'd end up in a permanent
state of dysfunction. I was taught that, having lead Kundalini to union
with Shiva in the Crown, you should guide her slowly back down the
chakras (still moist from her passion) to the Root at the conclusion of
your meditations.

I've read that the Heart is the easiest chakra to open, and the one that
is likely to cause the least problems (gosh, I'm not sure of that...), so
that's where beginners should start. I also read a wonderful meditation
that weaves the Kundalini AROUND the heart, going clockwise from Heart,
to Navel, to Throat, to Womb, to Brow, to Root, to Crown in an
ever-widening spiral, mimicking the way Kundalini is said to wrap herself
in three and a half coils around the svayambhu lingam in the Root chakra.

Can I pick at this bone you've tossed me? I am handicapped, walking
with a cane due to inoperatible hip arthritis. I'm still accommodating
myself to living on Disability benefits at a very low poverty level.
I've learned to rely on a combination of barter, and the kindness of
friends (more reliable than Blanche DuBois' "kindness of strangers").
This computer, for example, was a gift from a friend who upgraded to a
better one with more bells and whistles.

I've also studied for more than 15 years (and am now teaching) the
techniques of Gardnerian Witchcraft (or Wicca). I never paid a dime to
learn these techniques. I don't charge a penny to teach them. The
paradigm of our form of spirituality is that the teachings are a
love-gift. (We actually take an oath upon Initiation, not to charge
anything for teaching the Craft.) You can't "sell out" your spirtuality,
if it's not on the market.

I know a little [false modesty, here] about Shakta Hinduism, meditation
techniques, use of mantra, healing powers of gemstones. I teach classes
in these subjects at conventions and bookstores. The conventions pay for
my transportation, a hotel room, sometimes meals, and I'm allowed to sell
incenses, statues, and so on. The bookstores give me a cut of the take,
but my prices are very low, and if someone can't afford them, I have a
sliding scale.

I have a friend, Rae, who has become a devotee of Sri Siva Brzee
(formerly known as Sri Guruji Pillai). Out of curiousity, I coughed up
$45 to attend a one and a half hour lecture he gave to hundreds of
yuppies in midtown Manhattan. What he teaches is interesting, but I
can't afford him on a regular basis -- his all-day workshops are hundreds
of dollars. (My friend Rae can't afford him, either, but she has a
boyfriend who pays for her spiritual interests. Lucky Rae!)

I wrote to Sri Siva's E-mail address, asking to barter my writing,
editing, or drawing skills for a chance to attend some of his workshops.
I was "allowed" to write several short articles for his E-mail
newsletter, but when I again asked about attending workshops, I suddenly
stopped getting the 'letter!

It is very true that my Root chakra may not be in the best of shape.
I've been negotiating a better relation with Ganesha (Lord of that
chakra) via bhakti (devotion) and puja (offering ceremonies). While
$88.88 (all that Saturn energy! Howcum?) is not a fortune, I doubt I'll
be studying with Angelique's course anytime soon. I need the money for
vegetables, and new shoes, more right now.

Angelique -- I've known other poor but intelligent folks with First
Chakra blocks who resorted to some form of the sex industry to put food
on the table and books on the shelves. Do you recommend it? Most of
those I know burned out rather quickly. I'm turning my hand to writing
porno. Any hints? (Off-list, of course!)
