Subject: [K-list] A Crazy Quilt of Awakenings
From: Paul Perner

On 2000/08/14 03:29, Paul Perner posted thus to the K-list:

Dear Mystress and List Members,

My posts have been rare lately for two reasons. First, I've been
working three part time jobs (hoping to continue with a low cost,
nutritional cancer treatment that appears to be working!...and still
keeping in touch with the doctors... feeling good these days) and
secondly, so many subjects are brought up here that are so interesting
and engaging that it can be a bit much to keep up with.

Regarding meditation and the Horia wave that just swept in and receded
back to a "yoga retreat," I can relate to Jerry's concern.
My own awakening was the single most awesome, world rocking event of my
life. It was exactly what I needed and propelled me to a new life and
outlook on the universe, but I'll never forget the strange energy waves,
how at times I even thought I was close to dying and how I barely made
it through with my sanity intact.

The only meditations I've done since then is simple devotional (like
sitting on the beach, hearing the crash of the waves and giving thanks
for the water.... or laying in the grass at night, relaxing and
absorbing the light of the moon). Aside from attending a handful of
public ritual circles, I've done one guided group pathworking (it was
more of a brief, step by step trance induction to find one's power
animal). That's all.

I've decided to not to pursue the deeper Eastern type meditations. At
times I feel as though the Serpent Power is only a breath way and I'm
not sure I could handle another experience like the one I had two and a
half years ago. Not in the city, at least, with all the artificial
electricity, lights, cars, sirens... strange people. Another reason is
that I simply don't feel a need to have another breakthrough. I'm quite
happy with the home I'm creating, the friends I'm starting to know and
person I'm becoming. One big blast from God/dess was enough to fill this
little lifetime of mine.

One thing this list has taught me is how different our awakenings are.
This becomes obvious when one reads the various poll results. Some of us
(like Susan, myself and others) came into this process by total fluke.
Extreme and/or extraordinary events happened in our lives... the time
was right, the gates flew open and we suddenly became lightning rods...
with some reluctance, but ultimately without regrets.

I do respect and intend to learn from the traditional Eastern ways that
are discussed here, but because of my background, it's hard for me to
relate my awakening to some group of white robed bearded men who lived
centuries ago in a far away land. I realize there is much wisdom to be
gained through ages and sages, but some of us have had such a sudden,
traumatic shift of reality that we have trouble applying old rules to
new situations.

K energy is timeless. It's no respecter of cultures or persons. But
leave it up to human beings to create categories, develop systems, write
books and seal them with good intentions. It's just the way we are.

As soon as importance is given to lineage of gurus, a little religion
can pop out and just like Christianity, it will struggle to preserve
itself with apologetics and a list of dos and don'ts. I hope this never
happens in the modern Kundalini community (perhaps it has at times...
I'm not knowledgeable on this... any thoughts?)

This list is a wonderful, colorful crazy quilt of experiences. We all
stand on common ground with unique gifts in our hands. As we came here
by several paths, we use different words and have certain needs at
different times. But love and respect is at the hub of our wheel.

With one eye in the kaleidoscope and the other winking at you,

 I sail away....

 Paul
