Great idea for a poll, Joe! Especially neat for me, because I think a lot
of my awakening (or "remembering" as I like to think of it!) had to do with
the books that I read as a child, and even those I read today. In fact, I
think it was perhaps _The Illuminatus Trilogy_ that sparked my recent phase
of waking up, and actually pushed me into, dare I say, enlightenment.
Here are my answers:
1) Yes, me! :)
2) Honestly, I think it was almost from the beginning of this life because
my Mom is quite an enlightened woman. But I very clearly remember books of
a spiritual nature at the age of, hmmm, about 6 or 7.
3) I remember this "new agey" series that my Mom got me into when I was
maybe 7 or so. It was about an advanced form of energy
beings/interdimensionals who come to Earth to guide us. It was directly
aimed at children. I remember one of the books came with a long pouch that
was made of a cloth that resembled, well, kind of like opal. If anyone has
ANY idea what I'm talking about, PLEASE let me know, because I think that
the books were gotten rid of! And I've sine forgotten the title! :(
Another biggie, for probably many people, was the Madeline L'Engle series
that included A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and GEEZ, what
was the first one? Oh yeah, A Wrinkle in Time! Darn I need to re-read
those! I was maybe 10 at the time? These books, I believe, have probably
illuminated a GENERATION of kids -- all part of the Big Plan of course! :)
Gosh, I'm sure there were so many more -- There are the countless sci fi
novels and comics I was into, and still am, so many of which contain
elements of the truth (and sometimes, in retrospect with what I know now, it
is blatant!) Take Star Wars, for example, with the Force, guru Yoda (I love
you Master Yoda!), Jedi, etc. etc. Isn't it funny how even in episode 1,
which was lame in comparison to the original 3 flicks, there are many
references to the truth, even in the names of characters? (Qi-Gong Djinn,
for example.) And the bit about the "Midichlorians" (sp?) that live within
us, and tell us of the Force -- whoa boy! Lucas is definitely illuminated,
that is for sure (even if he can't direct!)
4) Heheh, all of my life experiences reinforced my love of reading about the
truth, and then that knowledge probably influenced certain life experiences,
etc. etc., a grand feedback loop, a microcosm of the universe as a whole I
suppose! I giant feedback fractal! Wonderful, isn't it? I do have reason
to believe that I am closely guided by interdimensional friends who are not
on this exact plane in physical form right now. I feel I am a "starseed,"
perhaps outside of a "regular" human reincarnation cycle.
I think maybe my father's death at age 3 pushed me into finding out more
about non-"physical" reality (of course _everything_ is physical, but not in
the way that most people understand the term). Maybe he is one of my
guides, perhaps even the one who has been (obviously) helping me out all of
these years! Hi Dad! :)
Heheh wow this is getting lengthy! I'll quit now! :)

(1) How many of us read books dealing with magic/psychic/spiritual phenomena
as youths?
(2) What ages were we when we read such books?
(3) What type of books - ie, fantasy, sci-fci, 'occult', or more
"non-fiction" oriented books on yoga, meditation or actual/historic
spiritual traditions?
(4) What experiences did we have that either sparked or fed our interest in
these topics?
