Hi List !

One interesting observation I happened to make was that we subconsciously
seem to be attracted to movies that somehow reflect our karmic path through
life. Even if we aren't at all aware of our destiny at the time of seeing the
film - there just seems to be a strong, almost compulsive drive and
attraction to see that particular film, sometimes again and again.

I saw this happen to a good friend of mine I've known for 20+ years. Way back
in the early 80's we saw Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon, a tragic story of a
well to do Irish nobleman (if I remeber correctly) a few centuries back,
who's life basically turns to ruins, marriage falls apart, health ruined by
excess drinking, fortune squandered. My friend would go and see the film over
and over again, clearly totally touched by the story. For me it was just a
good movie, it's directed by Kubrick after all, but it didn't speak to me on
a personal level. Now twenty years later my friend's karma has caught up with
him and it's as if he's following that inner script perfectly portrayed in
the movie.

For me, one film that knocked me out of my shoes emotionally was "The
Shawshank Redemption" - anyone seen it ? It's a very moving adaptation of a
Stephen King (gasp !) story about a guy who's injustly jailed for the murder
of his wife and suffers years of hardship and abuse in jail before finally
turning the situation to his advantage. Through the use of wits and
perseverance he eventually manages to break free a changed man and finally
settles down in peace on the Pacific coast in Mexico.

I really cried at the end because I realised the film was a perfect metaphor
for my (and others) spiritual journey, imprisoned in matter and karma and
really having to struggle hard to break free and find that ultimate peace of
mind.

The point is that for others it might just be another movie - for me it
seemed to be extremely meaningful, it was as if the higher self was telling
me, "watch this carefully, this is really your life !"

Yeah, Percyval, American Beauty did it for me too, the scene where the guy
shows his girlfriend a video of "the most beautiful thing he's ever seen" and
it turns out to be an empty plastic bag, tossed around by the wind - that's
really sensing the infinite tenderness of life in the small and everyday
things.

God's shakti in all things- in the last scene of the film when Lester, the
main character has been shot to death and reflects back on his life he says
something to that effect. Beauty and meaning, magnificience and purpose
hidden even in the insignificant and frustrating incarnation that's just come
to a violent end.

Back to the lurkatory, be well all

Michael
