Mark, I do enjoy your posts...

I do think there is also genuine grace which is bestowed on someone
regardless of practice or lack of practice...like me..

But I think my life history did prepare me when grace (shakti
initiation) surprised me.

I am beginning to see the horrors of my early teens to early adult
years as shamanic initiation. (been doing a lot of study) Rather than
going insane and killing myself and others I chose to retreat to the
Witness State and rescue and protect my soul.

I did spend about 10 of those years being a Christian fundamentalist
in a very strict sect. That experience was invalueable in teaching me
how to love and cry and how to question spiritual authority and trust
my heart.

It is interesting to note that Christians believe we have the
potential to be the living example or a brother or sister, of the
Christ by the second birth (the baptism of the Holy Spirit...or
Kundalini Shakti awakening) ...coming to drink from the well of
Living Water from which you will never thirst again.

There are many examples of instant transformation in Christian
literature and history. I even know people like that. The difference
between their former life (before Christ) and after is the difference
between night and day. I would call them genuine conversions.
Evangelical Christians are noted for believing in the concept of
grace....attaining heaven without the benefit of works...only belief
is necessary.

Some think then of professing belief as a divine insurance policy to
get into heaven...but genuine conversion is indicated by a change in
behaviour because the heart is changed. This produces a different
life...a living testimony to grace's power. "by their works you shall
know them'...

I think professing belief but there is an evidence of life unchanged
is indicative then of living on spiritual welfare...true poverty of
Spirit.

One of the biggest conundrums in evangelical Christianity (which is
really the only kind of Christianity I can speak about with authority)
is people believing that by their works they can go to heaven, be
saved (experience the second birth..the infusion of the Holy Spirit..
kundalini shakti).

the thought is "if I am just be spirtual enough, if I just pray
enough, if I just love my neighbor enough...i will merit spirtual
rebirth" It is a real hamster wheel you start running on when effort
is the only way for rebirth or awakening.

I think rebirth is a good metaphor for awakening. A person is truly
reborn to a new way of life.. a new way of thinking and living.

Birth does not require much effort on the part of the baby. If you
are birthing yourself prior education can help but it is not
necessary.

Likening spiritual practices to going to Lamaze classes I think is a
good analogy. Spiritual practices can ease the transition. But there
will always be babies born like me...on the back seat of the
taxi...unaware of what's going on till I open my eyes, take a deep
breath, and feel the kundalini shakti surging thru my body.

I also feel that awakening is happening faster and quicker on a
global scale without the benefit of spiritual practice. a lot of
those people find themselves here on this list. Some commentators
believe there is a 'quickening' going on. one of the results of the
Quickening is awakening on a faster scale.

Evangelical Christians would point to the price has been paid
already, in blood. Someone else, loved them unconditionally, to pay
the price for them to receive the free gift of grace.

Whether or not the crucifixion story is true or a metaphor or a
myth ...it still points to the reward of grace bought by blood,
someone else's sacrifice. To me, that means at least, that k
awakening is an invalueable gift available for all who wish to
receive it.

There is no such thing as "a
> spiritual Welfare program".

Maybe there is a spiritual charity program. Charity is another name
for love, love that implies an action towards someone.

I think feeling, experiencing, knowing a love divine, can cause
instant transformation. I remember how I felt when I first had
experiences of such ecstasy, even before I had shaktipat. I remember
how it started to change me from within.

I don't think alot of spritual traditions advertise you will feel and
know you are loved...except the more cultic, fringe programs.

People don't go to yoga classes or Golden Dawn trainings so they can
experience love. It's more, I think, about learning to manipulate and
control your body and environment...in a sense, becoming empowered. I
think, though, that many people would say in a moment of honesty,
what guides them is seeking more love in their life. I don't think
people are conscious of it so they say "I want to be empowered, I
want to be enlightened."

It is a way of enlightenment for sure..but it can be a long way.

Knowing and experience genuine love, rising from within your own
heart and within the hearts of others can make the path shorter and
more beareable.

Some will argue with me that the purpose of enlightenment, awakening
is to acheive non attachment, non duality. Maybe that would be a
great goal in world that we live in that has no problems or sickness.
I don't worry about my neighbor's world when I am non attached. I
just think how better life would be for them if they were non
attached like me...or actually I just wouldnt care at all.

But as long as I live in a dual world, attachment to love and ecstasy
serves a genuine purpose of awakening, the possiblity also of instant
transformation, new birth.

This puts me in a rather unique position. I love my neighbor but I
don't intervene without their permission. Makes me look detached but
what I feel is different. Empathy, a little sorrow...and yes, joy
deep in my bones as I observe the playing out of the human condition,
and with discernment I wait.

Love,
Susan

PS I no longer consider myself a Christian anymore but I didnt throw
the baby out with the bath water.
