Hi Lobster and Sverker,

The term is Trepanning.
As I read it, it is/was actually done near the Pineal gland, at the point
of the Fontanel at the top of the head, where there used to be a hole in
the skull anyways, still visible in x-ray pictures of babies' skulls. The
idea apparently is to let the Light in...

If you drill into the third eye area, I believe you'll give yourself a mild
pre-frontal lobotomy, as the forebrain comes down quite a way behind the
forehead. Might make one more "natural" in behaviour, but less able to cope
with plans, abstract ideas and higher levels of thinking and relating...
:-) Go too far and you'll probably end up pissing in the street and making
rude jokes to policemen, for the rest of your natural...

An English Doctor made a big living out of his "Ice-pick" lobotomy methods
in the fifities, using ice picks to go in over the top of each eyeball...
Patients were mildly sedated first. He apparently "treated" more than 365
patients a year for ten years, all of the treatments irreversable. His name
was Freeman, by the way...

May I just add that lobotomy has been used pretty unsuccessfully (but
enthusiastically) for whatever innapropriate behaviour health professionals
have disapproved of over the years, with no conclusive "improvement". But
it was great for creating ppl who couldn't look after themselves and were
incarcerated in mental hospitals permanently.

I don't know anyone who has done trepanning, and I am not drawn to it
without serious proof of harmlessness and effectiveness, as I cannot undo
it later.

Here be dragons... :-)

Rob
