hurting very much that I cannot manage to ask for help, & my beloved man

me of how the conquest from another man (husband) must be so
 irresistible & flattering.
What do the men say? Is it more enticing to strike up a love affair
with a married woman, or succumb to the love of someone who seems
 "needy", but is single? >>

OK, I'm going to say something that men hate to hear: men are simple meat.
Hemingway allegedly said that, and he should know! Guys go where they get
laid and get fed. If you had slept with him and cooked a few meals, you
would have had to beat him with a stick to get him to leave you. But, since
you lacked the social experience to figure that out, he got tired of waiting
around and flirting with you and went for a sure thing--the married woman.

Unfortunately, your dear friend may not just end up with a spray-painted
van--he may get beaten up or could actually get shot by the husband (that's
how we Americans solve these problems--we're fond of firearms). If I were
you, I would continue to be his supportive friend, and see what happens. An
occasional comment to the effect of "she cheated on her husband, so don't be
surprised if she cheats on you" might also be helpful. And, the next time
you see an opening, get in there! This isn't over yet.
