As was asked before, what's your definition of safety ? If you want to remain
whatever you are, awakening the kundalini-shakti can be a pretty terrifying
ordeal. If on the other hand you can groove on the idea that the present
"normal" state of living by the rules of an ego isn't so much fun & is filled
with illusions anyway, the Fiery Snake can destroy the cage you're living in.
Even then, there can be loads of trouble ahead, but as they say, the end just
sometimes justifies the means...
As I said in the other post, I'm pretty much convinced though, that we don't
really have a choice. If the Great Goddesss decides that her energy will
awaken within a specific individual it will happen, if it's not meant to be
then probably no amount of study, meditation, asanas, bla-bla would do.
At least for now, that is, maybe it's possible that in the long run, every
human being might walk around with more voltage in their spines.
The fact, that people are drawn to books, mailing-lists, questions about
kundalini, would to me indicate that there's a resonance within that might
precede the activation.
If it happens , I guess letting go of fear (which is constricting and a big
obstacle to shakti) and cultivating an attitude of total trust and surrender
instead (which truly lets the energy have her way) are valid suggestions for
coping with activated kundalini.
Never listen to people (or books) who only have second-hand knowledge of
kundalini activation.
And, everybody with active kundalini has their own very personal experiences
and trials, none of which might apply & happen to you. Best to trust yourself
!
