i've heard that many folks consider that St. John's Wort works well as an
anti-depressant... although i don't much detail about it, i'm sure there is
plenty written about it that can easily be found with a quick search of the
net...

also, i think that using alcohol to cure depression might only have a
temporary numbing effect, often followed by even greater depression... and
it may possibly make one more likely to kill oneself, by offsetting much of
the natural (and culturaly-conditioned) fear of committing suicide...

that said, i can appreciate occasional drunkeness for recreation and
sociability...
