Hmm... and I thought someone said there is no such thing as  
a free lunch. Well, I'm connected to a local 100Mbps ethernet 
in my student apartment home, connected to the 1Gbps campus  
backbone, connected over 155Mbps ATM to the rest of the world 
(see http://www.csc.fi/english/funet/figs/funet1999_map.gif). 
The network connection is included in the rent and the rent 
is very cheap, so practically it's free, blessings to the  
Finnish tax payers! So I don't mind if you just send me  
all the crap you can, I can take it. :-)
 
Well, honestly, the technical bandwith is not the problem, 
personally I feel I have the narrowest bandwith between my  
monitor and my eyes, so I vote for keeping the guidelines. 
If you want to see discussion with signal-to-noise ratio 
approaching zero without bound, there are many Usenet  
newsgroups out there for you...
