Hi Ville et al.,

Being absolutely dazzled by your insights
and humor, I don't have much more to
add on this string of posts, other than
a few things and a sincere wish of luck in
working towards your degree, no matter what
it will be. :)

Many MDs are ppl who are trying to fix
themselves. By helping others, they get to
face some of their own fears and help them
selves.
Like a friend of mine used to say:
The worst patients are actually MDs.
Maybe it is some truth in that.

>Yep, but "normal" medicine has some scientific basis. They know about
>bacteria, virii, and things that have been proved to exists, instead of
>thought-forms, archetypes, supportive settings and "balance".

Yes, that is true. Some of the battery of tests
that doctors have at their disposal,
like e.g. blood tests for allergies etc
are close to 40% inaccuracy. That's close to
guessing.
It is a wonder not more ppl are misdiagnosed.
The medical science, despite its many
methods and scientific working method
is not a "hard" science.

>I think that none of the
>psychiatric diagnoses require neurological testing (expect to exclude some
>neurological diseases).

Which is a mistake in many cases.
It does depend a lot on the MD you get,
whether he or she is a good practioner or not.
Some are really excellent, some are plain awful
and should never have been set loose on the
general populace.
I for one am very happy I have a background in
the life sciences so as to be a bit more
discerning.

>I think K would make one a pretty good psychiatrist... at least the K-ite
>would know how it feels to be detached.

LOL ! And could make some more balanced
diagnoses when it came to K related
illnesses / problems. :)
K could make on tough doctor, though,
absolutely uncompromising I suspect.
Wouldn't want to be a smoking asthmatic
to that doctor. ;)

>I guess my family knows
>about it too, but nobody really believes in it. >It's a kind of joke, really.

Oh, good ! :) Seeing the absurdity in things
like this and managing to laugh about it is
about the only way to deal with it.
The other alternative, crying over it,
is not half as fun.

>Well, I hope so. At least K makes somt otherwise stressfull things seem
>trivial, but when really heavy stress comes about, it can be
>incapacitating. OTOH, this can just be a personality trait.

No, I think this is something many ppl
experience. What does OTOH mean ?

>Actually it's not. I am in an unfortunate place where a lot of
>expectations have been placed on me, which brings some unwanted
>responsibilities. These success-things seem to be more important to
>families/relatives than the persons themselves (this is the way in Japan
>also, I uderstand?).

Very much so, still today.
I have met a lot of young ppl our generation
who had no say in their lives or education.
Their parents decided everything and they didn't
dream of not doing what they were told.
It does make one feel overlooked and creates
resentment, as you can imagine.

But I have also met young ppl, especially
women who broke out of the mold, by force,
went against all traditions and family
and did their own thing. I admire these
women wholeheartedly.
Well, actually, I admire anyone who breaks
out and finds their own place in life.
Doing it gracefully is even more admirable.
:)

>I was studying for MSc when the K started and I definitely had to stop
>studying, and working would not have been an option at all. But I don't
>know now, almost 3 years into the experience - I believe I could work
>nowadays. What's the deal with other people on the list?

I don't think I could have worked when
having the first K experiences, but in one
way I think I could not have not been working
either. So being a student was perfect,
had somewhere to go to see other ppl and
get back to the real world and forget 1942 for
a while. But being in a 8-6 job would have been
impossible.
Now, working is not too much of a problem,
but I would have preferred to have less than
10h days.

>Yeah, alternating current is not in balance when voltage-time is
>concerned, but is in balance when frequency is concerned...

:) What a beautiful picture that makes.

>"Restless neck" seems to be the result of drinking too little. Drinking
>too much cures it, but spoils the subsequent days.

LOL ! OK, I won't bother trying to cure it.

My head spins merely by thinking about
alcohol and seeing the Red Bull boxes in the
shop makes me think "Taurine, now there's a recipe for a physical death for a K'ite."

>Sometimes I wonder why
>some mystics (and even William James) used to think alcohol has some
>mystic powers/religious functions. It is quite spirito-supressive.

Nice word. LOL !

I've read the same thing. Traditional tantra
used to use alchohol too to fire up the emotions.

I must say, though, alcohol seems to have
different effect in different ppl.
In me, alcohol makes me want to leap out the
window, makes me extremely jumpy, think speed.

But then again, alcohol has a little different
effect on all ppl, doesn't it ? :)

>I believe the patients should be given all the drugs they want (if they
>are in a condition to make judgements), but therapy should not be forced
>on anyone.

I don't disagree on this. Ppl should be informed
about the possible drawback with medicine and
allowed some choice themselves.
Seeing that most patients suffer from
relatively mild illnesses such as
depression and anxiety, they should be
allowed informed decisions.

Again, thanks for the nice discussion.

Best regards,

Amanda.
