In this below, Leslie, you sum up very well what I have had to learn,
and am still working on fully accepting. To not try to expend energy and
time trying to 'help' someone that really isn't interested in 'help' at
all, despite what they might say, or even how seriously the difficulty
might be affecting their lives.
Through several contact sources, I have people approach me regarding
matters than are or might be 'k' related, related to spiritual awakening
experiences and paranormal phenomenon, etc. Some are, I guess, on some
kind of fantasy trip after reading a bit, and their imagination kicking
in, but some are really expereiencing some serious effects, and seem
desperate for help, yet they don't seem to be interested enough in
anything I suggest or offer to follow through on it. I've reccomended
books or sources of more experienced counseling, they shrug it off,
don't have time, don't get around to it, etc. I've even offered to loan
my own books, or give people copies of things I've pulled off Inet
sites, that relate to what is going on with them, to have them tell me
they wouldn't have time to read it, or that can't get around to making a
10 minute drive to my home to pick it up!
In such cases, sometimes these same people may call me a number of
times, pouring out their problems, yet dismiss anything I suggest or
tell them. I really don't know WHAT it is they are wanting, or hoping
for! Even worse, there are those that are in a quandry because they
don't know what is happening to them, but then insist on dismissing
everything I try to explain to them with some thing they already 'know'
or beleive that disallows what I'm saying. Or that start trying to tell
ME things that they believe will 'work' in some things related to this,
that are such utter nonsense and superstition, and of course, also
obviously haven't done a thing to help in their own case, either. Go
figure!
