I cannot speak for paths characterized as "Eastern Ascetic." I am Buddhist,
Sakya school, Tibetan tradition; what I might call "Eastern Compassionate."

Ultimately suffering, like all transitory phenomenon, proves illusory. Few
of us, or perhaps it is only me that does not, live in communion with that
ultimate state. So, truly, in this existence there is suffering.

The Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths. The first of these is the Noble
Truth of Suffering. The path which leads to liberation from suffering does
not begin with denial but, rather with the acceptance of suffering.

More recently, the Nagual Don Juan taught that accepting your situation is
the first step towards realizing your power. I feel this to be the same
teaching.

If that truth, that situation, is that you are a victim; so be it.

If that truth, that situation, is that there are no victims; so be it.
