As you say Howard, "Pain is in the physical..."  Pain..., to be dealt 
with... physically...dietary wise, body-structurally... 
When the 'psyche' (whatever that is, see lower down)... when the 'psyche' 
*tries to deal with* physical pain it is called suffering, leading into 
anguish, anxiety (a whole range of 'psyche' states)... ergo: one has NOT 
dealt with the pain physically, dietary wise, body-structurally. Suffering 
comes from a wrong psychology/philosophy: the mind/body split. Such a split 
does not exist in 'physicality', or anywhere... there is no elsewhere. Such 
duality is a hypothesis, a construct, a concept that originates from 
*incompletely* dealing, (nolens volens, willingly un-willingly) with 
physical wants, needs and deficiencies. Notice that suffering, as it is 
brought about by "torment" or  "tormentors", is always based on physical 
deprivations and imbalances. Torment and all its variations lead into the 
*conceptual* duality of 'psyche' states, conceptual limitations, 
deprivations, loss of freedom, avoidance of and difficulties with relating 
and relationships, isolation, slavery, submissiveness, subservience. 
SUFFERING... but illusive non-the-less. 
(There is an escape hatch that torment cannot cover... as the tormentor 
cannot see it. One will find out... sooner or later... one will restore 
one's freedom... reality... "nillusion".
 
Get the "physical" right on all seven energy levels (chakric, koshic). 
*    A non-conceptual whole food diet (no *isms), providing a full range of 
enzymes to ensure digestion of all foodgroups, (proteins, carbohydrates, 
fats). 
*    It has been found out now that the body can manufacture all vitamins 
when the intestinal flora is back to the good old days of early mankind. 
*    Natural fresh living water without chlorine, fluor. 
*    Distilled water is OK providing rain, river or spring water is used. 
Providing also that one uses unrefined seasalt to get all micro-mineral 
nutrients. 
*    Get as much water as possible through vegetables, organically grown. At 
least a pound a day. 
*    Get the breathing right. Start with natural cat-like yawning and 
stretching as described previously in a post. 
*    Get the spine right, hips, neck and shoulders. It is not for nothing 
that the Kundalini process works so much through, on and with the spine. 
*    Deep massage is very helpful providing there is lotso' love and comfort 
in it. 
*    Deep, intense and loving stroking and hugging, covering the whole body 
from tip to toe... the best. 
*    It stimulates especially the adrenals, spleen, thymus and lymphatic 
glands. (In fact all glands) 
*    Work towards dynamic and continuous flowing yoga asanas, a dance. 
*    All vertebrae (from very top to very bottom of spine) need to be 
unlocked. 
*    Specifically the fused or stiffened up sacro-iliac parts need to become 
flexible again. (Somewhat easier for women). 
*    All muscles surrounding the spine need to be unstressed, there are also 
musles on the frontside of the vertebrae, they get mostly overlooked. 
Of course there is much more. (Should cover all chakra levels.) 
When one lets the shakes and spasm that come with K. run their full course, 
all the body-structural stresses get dealt with. Mudras, kryas, asanas, 
bandhas, come spontaneously... unlocking fears, removing residual pain as 
*remembered* in musculature, nerve and brain structures. 
Important, do not be unduly afraid of SSRI type medication. Some medication 
is almost always (could be for shorter or longer periods) needed to 
restructure nerve message relays. Especially effective if there is evidence 
of past and current physical constraint, bodily fear, panic and anxiety 
attacks.
 
BTW, when a person is in a physical state of deprivation such as 
incarceration, hermitage etc. and food supply cannot be gotten right, 
purposely or not, the body allows it's own self-consumption. (There are 
concentration camp and monastic testimonies on this.) The body may get 
'right' in a seemingly emaciated condition. Pain and the absolvement of 
suffering are then still being dealt with in a specialized (often miraculous 
way.) Many incarcerated people (Aurobindo being just one example) 
experienced realizations, desert fathers, hermits, the emaciated buddha 
depiction. 
Not to be recommended nowadays.
