Well, I don't know about Western Society, but for me, I just don't see
any good reason why spiritual phenomena should be held to a lower
standard of truth than physical ones. As a society, we demand good,
solid proof from our scientists, and the results are equally tangible.
If we demanded the same from our gurus, astrologers, numerologists,
crystal workers, etc., perhaps we would find it easier to eliminate the
frauds and the dupes and get to the heart of the matter. However, I
suspect that such a standard of truth would be very hard to achieve: in
over a century of trying to experiment and investigate objectively, the
British Society for Psychical Research (for example) has failed to
produce a single unquestionable experimental result, as far as I know.
The ganzfeld experiments were yet another in a long, long line of
methodological blundering.

Very likely, IMO.
