Subject: [K-list] Endorphins discovered by a woman

Hello,

Thanks for asking,

Did you know that the first important works on endorphins
were due to a woman :

Candace Pert

in the laboratory of Solomon Snyder, at the very beginning
of the seventies (1970-1971).

She discovered the brain receptors for the opiace class
(opium related).

Then two scottish researchers discovered the endorphins
themselves, called 'enkephalins' at first (1974-1975). They
were Hans Kosterlitz and John Hugues, from Edimbourg
University.

A lot of work have benn done since.

The two scotish got a Nobel prize, but the scientific
community always thought that Candace Per should have shared
it.

Grossly speaking, the endorphins (there exist many kinds of
them) are the molecules of pleasure. The question is 'how to
get there at will ?'. That remembers me of something.
