Quack, quack ! ;))
Here's some more quacking for you. ;)

Martin, what you say
is something that has hit the brain
when the clock is 4 in the morning and
I'm unable to sleep.
So let me just quack a little on this. ;)

Many scriptures admonish the reader not to
worry excessively about material
things, or at least not "be attached to these
things", i.e. you can have it if it comes to
you but don't run after it if you don't
have it and don't run after it if it leaves.

I guess in most instances that's difficult
enough.

But now comes the hard part.
In addition to material things, one is also
asked not to be too attached to the physical
body, to meet physial and emotional injury,
danger, illness and death with as balanced
mind and heart as possible.

Whereas I personally definitely see the positive
sides to these admonishments,
I do also see that the want for material
things, financial security and the like
stems from wanting to feel secure in general,
to protect the physical body.
With money, one can buy food and medicine.
With money one can also buy a nice house
and a fast car so one can speed through the
hazardous areas of town.

I don't know, but to me, a lot of the need
for security can be traced back to a need to
protect the physical body in some way.

In this connection, having an argument with
the boss that may or may not lead to promotion
(more money) will matter.
In this connection, organizing a riot to
be heard by the powers that be when your job
is in danger becomes important.

I'm not saying these actions are wrong to take.
One cannot expect ppl living in refugee camps
in FY not to worry about their living conditions, nor can one expect African HIV
pos. ppl not to want to have medicine from
rich countries.
If there was no excessive overusing in
other countries, these situations would
not arise at all.

However,
if one can reduce the worry of the physical
body and its needs, starting with material
belongings one deem one does not need
or does no longer use, I strongly believe
this is a place to start.

It has been
a personal choice not to worry too much
about the physical or other bodies and
personal possessions, without taking a lot
of risks. (I don't do BASE jumping,
although I often ponder what it would be like
to jump out of the 5th floor window ;) )

I don't know how much this will affect the views
of the ego and the reactions of the ego,
but one can at least satisfy one's own
curiosity. :)

Feel free to quack back, Martin. ;)

Best regards,

Amanda.
