Spiritual force immanates from longing for the Great. As a result the mind
-
psychic potentiality - undergoes a dilation. This dilation is not mere
puffing up, but an expansion in perception and intuitive awareness. As a
result of mental dilation i.e., increase in volume and mass of the psychic
potentiality, the mind acquires more and more potentiality for
multilateral
activities. According to the mental dilation, the physical body, as well
gets metamorphosed, and as the longing for the Great increases, the
physical
body develops certain complexities for an adjustment with the higher
psychic
demands.

Hence we find that in creatures having developed sentiments, reasoning,
creativity, etc the physical body is a composite structure of a large
number
of glands with their peculiar activities. The developed glandular
complexity
is an essentiality for facing the psychic clashes in subtler spheres.

Some try to equate animals as having the same capabilities. But it is
simply not so because one can easily examine the nervous structures,
physical makeup, glandular stucture of animals and see from simple
observation and anatomy that it is no where near as complex as human
beings.
Yet these foolish thinkers acting out of sentiment resort to worshipping
animals as gods. Yet, never do these thinkers want to be animals
themselves. Of course they should respect the animals but to worship them
as equal to humans in terms of ability is simply incorrect from all
standpoints.

Due to psychic dilation the crude mind grows still subtler. Therefore, it
is seen in humans that the instinctual is not the dominating force, while
in
the cruder mind of animals it is. This increase in subtlety develops in
the
unit mind the capacity to realize its subjectivity. That is I exist, what
is my purpose, who is this I, how can I elevate myself, etc. The more
developed becomes its ego and later on it can feel and determine the trend
of all its movements. It is at this stage that the evolved unit mind
develops within itself both the ego and the will and it can use the
momentum
acquired in any direction according to its desire, subject to
circumstantial and environmental factors and limitations.

Before this development in will and ego, expression of self in a
constructive line is not possible. For animals it is largely not
possible.
Hence in plant and animal life, where mind is underdeveloped the vital
energy as well as the mind are guided and controlled by the will of the
Supreme Consciousness, manifest as Nature. This guides the animal and
plant
kingdom in the course of evolution. These underdeveloped plants and
creatures can have definite progress in the course of subtler evolution of
mind, because they are being controlled by the will of Nature.

But through elevation of mind a unit mind constantly rises higher and
higher, but once will is developed within its scope of activities and a
special momentum is acquired, the unit mind can choose any direction
according to its desire i.e. it may adopt a course of crudification or
subtle yearning. This stage of mental evolution, when the developed ego
decides the direction [and can move even towards crudity or reliance only
on
instincts and pleasures]) is called the human being. Mental development
has
commenced in the species because the entity develops a feeling, that it
has
a mind, a mental force, which it can utilize to serve its purpose.

In the earlier stages only the will-force of Nature and natural instincts
acts, but at the stage of human development, the thought-waves of
spirituality and desire for oneness with the Universal arises. The
Macrocosm
exerts and expresses Itself directly through the microcosms, and the
latter
determines, by the individual will, their paths of movement.

Thus the inanimate and instinctual phase of creation and evolution of
species moves by the impetus of Nature only; while in the animate phase of
mind which means expansion of mind, there is imagination of One and
ideation
of higher spiritual awareness and there is also awarenss of many as well.

In animals the cooperation between there instinctual mind and the Cosmic
Mind is not a coordinated nature; these unit minds work in a subordinated
cooperation with the Cosmic mind. But in human spheres, the cooperation
can
be of both coordinated and subordinated nature. Human beings, the
possessor
ego, has accumulated in his or her self the experiences which they
underwent
during his past living stages. But their living momentum knows nothing
about
the phases ahead.

The momentum of previous lives and species from which they came and
evolved
naturally creates a longing for material happiness, or love for matter and
they remain unaware of the love of Consciousness, of the Spiritual, as
this
stage or path is untrodden by them - those who want to live only by
instincts or only for matter and pleasure. So who does like to take the
unknown risk of an untrodden path? A peson, who has got longing for the
material or who lives by instinct like an animal, lacks in the courage to
experiment with the spiritual desire and to follow the path shown by the
saints and spiritual examples of history.

Ordinarily a person does not follow this brave path. They think of the
need
of some super-human help for their carnal pleasures. They create imaginary
Gods or are misled to worship the mental creations of others, and feel
satisfied. So they worship thunder as God, they worshp animals as gods,
they worship and resort to idols and numerous superstitions.

These are all worships of matter or the crude. According to its
fundamental
properties the mind stuff takes the form of the object it entertains. The
constant superimposition of the physical entities, of matter, of rigidity
and the mundane waves on the psychic body - on the mind, means the mental
waves, one's thoughts out outlook, for the sake of an adjustment take the
length of the material waves, representing a cruder psychic projection.
Such
a crude mind for the sake of a psycho-physical parallelism is caught in a
process of retraction of mind towards instincts, towards matter, towards
the
ordinary and mundane - this is their pleasure and goal. The movement is
the
path of negative evolution.

As they are caught in this they cannot exercise conscience or see the
spiritual from the mundane, so they consider animals as gods
and animals as food.
