I hadn't thought of that (because I have no intention of doing any such
thing). Well, the religious will just have to live forever or die in the
normal way. Personally, I'm curious to see how things will turn out in
the long run. The Universe seems to have some 30 billion years or more
to live. Plus, there may be other Universes too.

I think that converting them into inhabitable environments will be a
relatively trivial task 50+ years from now (and extremely cheap to do,
as well: drop a few self-replicating intelligent nanomachines into the
atmosphere, and they will use locally available materials to terraform
the entire planet - planets like Mars and Venus could probably be all
done and landscaped in a couple of years, or maybe even quicker).

Well, we haven't learned it yet, that's for sure. Strictly, our
ancestors probably could have lived on other planets: various micro-
organisms would find various moons of Jupiter and Saturn very much to
their taste, with nice juicy methane/ammonia/sulphurous atmospheres. But
I can play "what if" too... What if we have to escape this planet as
fast as possible regardless of the damage we may do to it, because it is
programmed to be destroyed by a cosmic disaster in the near future? What
if we are about to be kicked out of the cradle? My feeling is that we
can't afford to be complacent, because the danger may be real: being
dependent upon only one ecosphere is foolhardy if we can spread the
risk.
