It's a theory with precious little empirical support - only the usual 
anecdotal not-very testable accounts to go on. Plus lots of wish 
fulfilment. Maybe it's correct, maybe not.

Yes; we could have lived a trillion lives in this Universe, provided 
most of them were as bacteria. Other Universes? Well, it works better 
for me if we assume we live the lives more or less simultaneously - then 
the time factor is irrelevant.
