Hello all kundalites !

In one of the yoga-sutras of Patanjali (I don't remember which one) it's
stated that time, or rather the sense of evolving time within our
consciousness, is generated by the flow of objects and impressions in the
mind.

I first more or less brushed this off as as one more clever theory,
impossible to prove. However once I started to become a little bit more aware
of the workings of my mind (meditation and all that...), it began to make a
lot more & practical sense - check it out: You see a dog in the street, it's
the mind that creates the image of a dog in consciousness. Then you think
about what groceries to get in the supermarket - now the dog isn't there in
the consciousness but it's place has been taken by apples, cartons of milk
and the odd zucchini. Then your neighbour calls from over the fence and the
mind travels outwards and formulates something nice to say. When the
neighbour is back in her house, you stop and think, wow already five minutes
have passed, I have to run now...

If one can step back a little bit from the mind, it's possible to realise,
that all these events (dogs, zucchini, neighbours, sense of urgency) appeared
and disappeared within the mind and in so doing created a sense of
consecutive linearity. However the actual observer, (the silent witness, the
inner movie-screen, the "I" beyond the mind) is absolutely still and static -
no movement - and therefore no time - this part of oneself is always in the
eternal "now" and time is just in the mind.

Also, when in deep concentration, the sense of time changes - I think most
people have experienced this. This is because, there aren't many different
objects and impressions in the mind but only whatever one is concentrating on
...

All this stuff is really subtle, I find it quite difficult to nail it down
accurately. It's a really interesting idea to play around with however and I
find that as a "reality-concept" it sort of grows on you... (Mama help - is
it contagious ??!!)

Love
Michael
