...whew! I just got back from the library (dusty) stacks,
searching for material on TIME and cultures.

I'll dig into them (the books) and see what I can come
up with. However, while browsing, it occurred to me
that any culture that has agriculture as its base would
be a non-linear culture; after all, they go by the cyclical
seasons (planting, harvesting).

Also, somewhere in the dusty recesses of my brain, I recall
reading that the concept of HISTORY----and hence the
emergence of the importance of the concept of linear
time----is a relatively recent creation. If I recall, and I
may be wrong
the Chinese, for example, never wrote a history of their
own culture until relatively recent times (o, say a couple
of thousand years ago or so).

Because of what was considered the unimportance of written
history, the Buddha's birth, death and parinirvana are all
celebrated on the same day in our Month of May (according
to the lunar calendar).

Which brings up another question: Wasn't linear time a
cultural
concept AFTER the adoption of the 'modern' calendar? If my
foggy brain remembers correctly, linear time came into
importance
only after the lunar calendar was rejected (aren't we using
the Gregorian calendar now?).

Off the topic (sort of): I heard a great talk on Public
Radio
on how, because of the adoption of the Gregorian calendar,
we MISSED THE MILLENIUM, folks! Yep. According to the
experts they had on this program, the Millenium zoomed by
in 1994 or somewhere around there. (apparently we 'lost' a
number of days when we switched over to the Gregorian
calendar).
HA!

Love,
Adele

P.S. when I throw out these statements, you know, I don't
throw them out as ABSOLUTE truth! Please, if anyone has
other information, I'm very interested in hearing about it.

the concept of time has always fascinated me; especially
with
my personal experiences of synchronicity (meaningful
coincidence).
